Goldberg was born about sixty-three years ago in a village near Elbaph. The 12-day fast before the Winter Solstice began with a celebration of his birth. A few months after Ohara was destroyed, Goldberg, Hajrudin, and Gerd visited and recovered the books that had been dumped into the lake 22 years ago. And then they took the books to Elbaph.
Many years later, Goldberg joined Hajrudin in his mission of restoring the Giant Warrior Pirates, along with three other giants. The group joined Buggy's Delivery, a pirate delivery company, as mercenaries. The crew earned the level of S-Class troops and became the organization's top five earners throughout their time there.
When Hajrudin returned to Karai Bari Island, the New Giant Warrior Pirates told Mohji that they had resigned from Buggy's Delivery and sailed out in the Naglfar as part of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. Hajrudin had promised the loyalty of his crew to the Straw Hat Pirates.
Muginn, Gerd, and Goldberg went to Road's house to stop the Straw Hat Pirates after learning about their kidnapping via Road's pet. While traveling, Gerd voiced her distaste for Road, to which Goldberg replied that he was on their team because he was an excellent navigator.
Soon after, Road was pursued by Goldberg and Gerd back up the bridge to the rest of Elbaph. Goldberg was carrying the Thousand Sunny at the same moment. To their complete surprise, Luffy reappeared from the Underworld while they were still sprinting down the bridge.
Luffy seemed nervous when Goldberg asked him why he had been in the Underworld, but Goldberg dismissed the behavior as a response to the cold. In retaliation for Road's actions, the two knocked him out before bringing Luffy to meet with his team. Gerd and Goldberg introduced themselves and then returned to the village. Goldberg greeted the other Straw Hats when they arrived in the Western Village.
Goldberg seems to be humorous about most things. Road's antics irritated Gerd, but Goldberg took it all in fun and told her that he was an excellent navigator, showing a more practical attitude. In any case, Goldberg remains disgusted by Road's behaviour and, after catching up to him and the Straw Hat Pirates, angrily knocks his navigator out. He has a distinctive laugh as many other characters: "Degyagyagyagya."
Goldberg is a huge, chubby giant with a big jaw and dark orange hair. He is dressed in a grey cloak with a flower buckle, a Viking helmet, dark-striped green plaid suspenders, and no shirt. He has a belt around his chest as well. He has a blue and yellow striped shield, with eyes and a mouth with a very large tongue. He was clothed in yellow in the anime and had shorter, light brown hair when he was a newborn.
Considering his stature, Goldberg probably has a lot of physical strength. Known for his expert mercenary job, he served as an S-Class mercenary for Buggy's Pirate Dispatch Society alongside the other members of his crew. As his crew's cook, he probably has some culinary skills.
Goldberg's strength as a giant allowed him to go after Road while carrying and lifting the Thousand Sunny, a big ship. Together with Gerd, they managed to knock out Road with a single blow.
Goldberg is carrying a mace that is as long as he is; the handle is extremely lengthy and swells at the end. Additionally, he is carrying a little shield with vertical stripes, which has a living face on it.
