Jarul and Jorul were captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates once, and they fought together for three hundred years. But in the end, they left the crew, and Dorry and Brogy took up the title. Before the Winter Solstice Festival, sixty-three years ago, Jarul and Jorul traveled to Warland Village on Elbaph to share a feast with the people of Sheep's House. They praised Raideen for making Hajrudin a capable fighter. After that, the feast started, and the villagers joined in on the semla.
When Linlin's hunger sickness caused her to destroy an Elbaph village and kill Jorul on the seventh day of the 12-day fast, the giants were able to calm her by giving her semla. Jarul was about to kill Linlin after she had fallen asleep, but Carmel intervened, asking the elder giant to spare her in exchange for her leaving Elbaph with Linlin. After agreeing to Carmel's demands, Jarul asked her to leave. He went to see Jorul's and some other giants' graves thereafter.
Jarul was one of the people who tried to arrest Loki when he killed his father, King Harald, fourteen years before the main plot. He was stabbed by a sword through the forehead during the process, but he lived.
In a celebration honoring the Straw Hat Pirates, Jarul, who is still alive today, subsequently paid a visit to his successors and their friends. Jarul met Luffy in person during the celebrations and told him how surprised he was to see people who had traveled all the way up to the Western Village.
Jarul responded to Luffy's question regarding the idea of a "Sun God" by saying that Nika was a harbinger of destiny who was closely connected to two historical world-destroying disasters; however, it was unclear whether he was the destroyer or the rescuer. Jarul guessed that Loki killed his father because he was trying to imitate Nika's behavior, but some of his fellow giants reprimanded him for it right away.
A drunk Usopp came over to Jarul as the celebration was coming to an end and introduced him to his crewmate Nami. Nami received praise from Jarul, who boldly said that he preferred older ladies when questioned about his ideal kind of partner. Still intoxicated and unaware of his actions, Usopp told Jarul that there was no such thing as an older woman before striking him in the skull with the sword. The other giants explained that if the sword was taken away, Jarul would die from blood loss, leaving him shocked and horrified at the seemingly fun act.
Before the banquet could proceed, the Walrus School called to let the villagers know that a fire was burning on the eighth branch of the tree, that the students were sleepwalking away, and that "MMA" monsters were attacking the school. Since his great-great-granddaughter, Ylva, was a student at the school, Jarul was drunkenly upset. He and the people were stunned when a huge Draugr MMA knocked down a firefighting Svarr.
Realizing that something had to be done immediately, Jarul quickly regained his bearings. He sent a villager to spread the word after Nami told him about the God's Knights' arrival on Elbaph in the hopes of capturing them before they could create more damage. Jarul immediately dismissed the Straw Hats' offer to help protect Elbaph, telling them that they shouldn't have to endanger their lives as guests.
Jarul highly values militarism, as depicted when he reminded the young giants on Elbaph that they were warriors above all else. Despite being committed to militarism, Jarul is incredibly tolerant, as evidenced by his willingness to accept Carmel's professed pacifist worldview in order to trade rather than plunder.
Because he deeply values friendship and morals, he is unable to forgive Charlotte Linlin for killing Jorul in a shameful way. He lamented the loss of his lifelong friend and observed that if he had died a warrior's death, it would have been acceptable. But because of his deep regard for Carmel, he regretfully decided to spare the young girl's life and let them go. He has a distinctive laugh like many others: "Bojajaja."
Being an elderly giant, Jarul is far larger than the average person. He is huge, even when compared to other giants, and at least twice as tall as Brogy. Jarul has a beard that is so big that it covers much of his body and has a mountain-like shape. He wears a Viking helmet with curving horns. His coat is made of black feathers. A sword that was plunged through Jarul's head while he was standing against Loki fourteen years ago has been lodged in his skull ever since.
Even among the giants of Elbaph, Jarul, a former captain of the Giant Warrior Pirates, is a very strong warrior. He is regarded as a hero by Jorul, and Hajrudin has the highest regard for him. Being a giant, he lives a very long life; at the moment, he is 408 years old. Surprisingly, Jarul has been shown to survive a sword stab wound to the head, which he attributes to his helmet, even if the blade penetrates all the way. But if the sword is ever taken away, Jarul will probably lose too much blood to survive.
He appears to be a competent fighter despite his advanced age, as shown by Loki during his murderous rampage, in which he and 100 other giant guards were slain, and only one survived. He used a longsword when he tried to stab a sleeping Charlotte Linlin.
