History

Past

Laffitte was expelled from West Blue and the police force for being unduly abusive and brutal to his protectorates. He had previously served as a sheriff in the West Blue. Nevertheless, he turned into a pirate.

Eventually, he received an invitation to become the navigator for the Blackbeard Pirates. Laffitte and the rest of the crew invaded Drum Island after joining Blackbeard's company, forcing the cowardly King Wapol to escape.

Jaya Island Arc

In Warlords of the Sea, Blackbeard sends Laffitte to Mary Geoise to suggest his name as Crocodile's heir. When he gets to the castle, he interrupts Dracule Mihawk and apologizes to everyone in attendance, asking if it's okay that he's joining the meeting.

He also says that he didn't realize that many well-known people would be there. When Sengoku questions him about his identity, the pirate replies that he is aware that Crocodile's title was revoked and that the World Government is searching for a new Warlord.

When Tsuru identifies him and tells Sengoku about his violent background, Laffite tells Sengoku that he is there to nominate a specific person as warlord and doesn't seem to care too much about it. Laffitte suggests that Teach, his captain, take Crocodile's position. Sengoku, nevertheless, is not persuaded that a person with such little notoriety could be sufficiently menacing in the role of Warlord.

Laffite responds, bringing up Teach's renown and stating that they are aware of the problem and actively working to fix it. Laffitte then departs from the Mary Geoise fortress, telling them to keep the term "Blackbeard Pirates" in mind.

Enies Lobby Arc

Blackbeard reads a newspaper to his crew while they are pillaging a town on Banaro Island. He informs them that the Straw Hats have caused chaos in Enies Lobby and that Luffy's bounty would be considerably enhanced. The crew then gets ready to pursue them when Lafitte remarks that Enies Lobby is connected to Water Seven via a Sea Train and Van Augur says he is not far from their location. But Portgas D. Ace suddenly shows there to challenge them.

Following his rejection of Blackbeard's invitation to join the crew, Ace is attacked by Van Augur and Burgess. Laffite is able to avoid Ace's use of Hiken to assault the crew at that same moment, and Ace's captain orders the crew to withdraw as well. He later watched the duel between Blackbeard and Ace from the sidelines with the rest of his crew.

Impel Down Arc

After Laffitte mesmerized the soldiers at the Gates of Justice to open for all battleships, the Blackbeard Pirates set sail to Impel Down. As Monkey D. Luffy was having a fit on Level 4 while returning from prison, the Blackbeard Pirates made their way to Impel Down. With apparent anger, they shoved their way into the large jail. Following their confrontation with former Head Jailer Shiryu on Level 1, they descended to Level 4, where they came upon the escape inmates.

Laffitte watched as Luffy and Blackbeard engaged in a short combat. The Blackbeard Pirates spoke with the inmates before moving on to the lower floors and confronting Chief Warden Magellan, who used his Hydra method to poison them. Shiryu, who accepted Blackbeard's invitation and joined their company, later provided an antidote that rescued the whole crew.

The Blackbeard Pirates forced the prisoners to fight to the death when they got to Level 6, with the surviving joining the crew.

Marineford Arc

Laffitte was seen on the execution platform, where he and the other Blackbeard Pirates both old and new arrived to see the action on the battlefield. Blackbeard declared that he was glad to have returned in time to see Whitebeard die. It seems that Blackbeard had brought his crew back to Marineford for that purpose.

Laffitte told Sengoku that at the Gates of Justice control room, he had put the Marines under hypnosis. Whitebeard was assaulted and killed by the Blackbeard Pirates when Blackbeard challenged him.

Laffitte helped his crewmates bury Whitebeard with a black cloth when he died, and he watched over Blackbeard as he began to exhibit his abilities. There was no ingress, he told the Marines. Laffitte smiled at their adversaries' bewilderment when Blackbeard later reappeared and displayed the Gura Gura no Mi's potency. The Blackbeard Pirates were then ambushed by Sengoku in his Buddha form, who shocked them with shockwaves.

As Blackbeard engaged in combat with Sengoku and Monkey D. Garp, Red-Haired Shanks made their appearance. Rather than confront the Red Hair Pirates, the Blackbeard Pirates made the decision to go. In the New World, the team took action and eliminated Jewellery Bonney. There were arguments among the crew members.

When Avalo Pizarro attempted to claim the title of captain, Laffitte reaffirmed that they were the "Blackbeard Pirates" and threatened to murder him. Because of Sanjuan Wolf's size, the Blackbeard Pirates' raft was nearly destroyed, and it appears that they contacted the Marines to exchange Jewellery Bonney for a battleship.

Van Augur informed Teach that the battleship was here, but that Akainu was on board, thus it was not for trade. As soon as the Blackbeard Pirates saw the agreement would not go through, they left Bonney and her crew behind to be taken into custody.

The Blackbeard Pirates defeated the remaining Whitebeard Pirates in a battle that took place a year after the battle of Marineford. Teach's knowledge of Whitebeard's old domain was utilized by the Blackbeard Pirates to seize it. The Blackbeard Pirates were searching for strong Devil Fruit users so they could absorb their skills now that Blackbeard had attained the rank of Emperor.

Laffitte eventually joined the ranks of the "Ten Titanic Captains" and took command of the Blackbeard Pirates' fifth ship, which gave him the moniker "Demon Sheriff," as the gang eventually grew into a fleet.

The crew eventually came across Kuzan on an island, and following a little altercation, they all began drinking and laughing heartily. The gang then began talking about "the man with the burn mark," who might be able to direct them to the last Road Ponyglyh that would allow them to go to Laugh Tale. To everyone's surprise, Teach encouraged Kuzan to join the crew, and Kuzan, who preferred to live according to his own terms, agreed.

Laffitte then pondered if they should assassinate the former Marine Admiral in order to get the power of the Hie Hie no Mi. After the Rocky Port Incident was sparked by Trafalgar Law, the Blackbeard Pirates were able to establish their base of operations on the island of Hachinosu.

Zou Arc

The Blackbeard Pirates visited Dressrosa following Doflamingo's defeat, but they were unable to locate Burgess. Burgess made touch with Laffitte and Shiryu through Den Den Mushi in a specific sea in the New World.

It was Laffitte who had to remind Burgess that "Captain Teach" was now "Admiral Teach," after he had stowed away aboard a ship that took him to the Revolutionary Army's base on Baltigo. Burgess was seriously hurt by Sabo, so he asked Doc Q for assistance.

Then he instructed them to relay word to Teach and organize an island invasion by the Blackbeard Pirates. Later, the Revolutionary Army managed to flee as the Blackbeard Pirates attacked Baltigo, destroying the island by the time the Marines and Cypher Pol arrived. However, after a brief altercation with Cypher Pol, the Blackbeard Pirates withdrew.

Personality

Laffitte was banished for his extreme brutality and violence. He was a sheriff from West Blue. Contrary to his history, Laffitte appears to be a composed, amiable person who smiles all the time these days. When Portgas D. Ace attacked, he reportedly made no move to fight with his crew, instead running away with the others to a safe distance and whistling.

Laffitte happily smirked as he killed Whitebeard when Teach gave the order for his men to assault. Teach also teasingly mocked the Marines about sinking their Headquarters while wreaking havoc on the already-devastated Marineford, using his newly acquired Gura Gura no Mi.

Even though Laffitte is a cunning pirate, he has an incredibly refined and sophisticated personality and is always seen speaking politely.

Appearance

Laffitte is extremely pale, and his shoes compel him to tap dance as he walks. Along with being slender, he is also incredibly tall, far taller than most of his team. He is dressed in blue jumper pants and an off-white long-sleeve shirt with a yellow cross design. His trademark red wooden cane and traditional black top hat, together with a pair of gold hoop earrings, are what set him apart from the crowd.

He has unusually dark red lips. He updated his outfit with a new black cape and feathered collar after assuming command of the fifth fleet.

Laffitte’s abilities, strengths, and fighting style

Laffitte held dominion over the populace in his capacity as a former sheriff. But when he was banished, his severe harshness cost him this power. Following the time travel, he is formally the captain of the fifth fleet or ship of the Blackbeard Pirates and one of the Ten Titanic Captains who personally watch over the Emperor, Blackbeard. His fighting prowess is unknown, although he must be quite strong.

Laffite's authority is further demonstrated by the fact that Blackbeard would not tolerate any weaklings in his crew he even rejected Super Rookie Jewellery Bonney, offering her a 140,000,000 berry prize. He made a threat to kill Avalo Pizarro, one of the most formidable criminals in Level 6, demonstrating his apparent confidence in his skills. Vice Admiral Tsuru also recognized him right away.

He was said to have been able to hypnotize Marines in order to get them to open the Gates of Justice for him during the Marineford Arc. Laffitte has a great deal of infiltration expertise. A remarkable feat considering he was able to slip past several high-ranking Marines and three Warlords who each boast considerable degrees of sensory Haki while wearing tap shoes no less, was accomplished when he travelled to Mary Geoise and easily navigated all the security defenses of the World Government's sacred land.

He then joined the meeting for the new Warlord of the Sea nomination without drawing attention to himself until he voluntarily revealed himself. Later at Marineford, Laffitte sneaked into the control room to hypnotize the Marines inside before the Blackbeard Pirates sailed to Impel Down. Laffitte is the navigator who leads the other Blackbeard Pirates across the ocean. Although his degree of navigational proficiency is currently unclear, it is anticipated that he possesses a high level of expertise in traversing the Grand Line, including the waters of the New World.

Interestingly, he is not depicted in the Log Pose, which is necessary for traversing on the Grand Line, even though he works in that field. Similar to the Soru method, Laffitte can move swiftly, as seen in Blackbeard's battle with Ace. Laffitte has demonstrated great endurance by battling on even after suffering a direct blow from Fleet Admiral Sengoku's shockwaves with the other Blackbeard Pirates and one of Whitebeard's Gura Gura no Mi shockwaves.

Laffitte’s special abilities

Devil Fruit

Laffitte has consumed an unidentified Devil Fruit and demonstrated his ability to change his arms into a pair of wings. It's unclear if Laffitte's ability to change his arms into bird-like wings comes from eating that same Devil fruit. Upon the Blackbeard Pirates' invasion of Impel Down, he proved his strength.

Weapons

Laffitte carries a cane that he spins to accompany his tap-dancing from time to time; it is yet unknown if it can be used as a weapon. When Laffitte assisted in killing Whitebeard, he was armed with a handgun. Additionally, he was observed clutching it to keep Blackbeard away from the Marines.

Relationships

Marshall D. Teach

The fact that Laffitte made a mocking threat to assassinate Avalo Pizarro for suggesting that he take over as crew captain instead of Marshall D. Teach and that he had to constantly remind Burgess to call Teach as "admiral" rather than "captain" are two examples of how devoted he appears to be to Teach.
