History

Past

The great snake Kashigami's kids gave birth to Nola. After its parent and grandparents died more than 400 years ago, Nola went to see the Shandia warrior Kalgara and the explorer Mont Blanc Noland. When the enormous Shandorian Golden Belfry Bell began to ring, the snake followed them into the ruins of the ancient golden city of Shandora and became fascinated. After making its home among the ruins, Nola spent time interacting with Seto and Kalgara.

They informed the snake that they were ringing the bell so Noland would hear it when the explorer returned to the island. Five years after Nola had first met Kalgara and Noland, half of Jaya was pushed into the air by a Knock Up Stream and ended up in the clouds.

After driving the Shandia from their home, the sky residents separated Nola from the people who looked after it. In addition, the Golden Bell vanished and did not ring for four centuries.

Skypiea Arc

As they were investigating Upper Yard, Nola ran into Monkey D. Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, Tony Tony Chopper, and Nico Robin. The four pirates fought the snake's attempts to eat them by twirling around its stings. Nola eventually located Luffy once more and devoured him. Nola shrieked in agony as Luffy tormented the insides of her stomach in an attempt to break free, sending her tearing across Upper Yard.

After seeing Zoro clinging to a bird, Nola attempted to devour him. Later, when Zoro collapsed onto Shandora's Upper Ruins, Nola descended into the area and engaged Wyper, Gan Fall, Ohm, and Holy in a duel. Wyper fired his Burn Bazooka at the snake, but it was unaffected as Nola persisted in going after Zoro. Then Nola burst into a brief fit of laughter as Luffy attempted to dig a rock out of its stomach. Next, Nami and Aisa rode a Waver to the Upper Ruins, where Gan Fall launched them into the air with Pierre.

Then Ohm encircled the Upper Ruins with a dome constructed from Iron Cloud barbed wire, which made Nola writhe in agony each time the snake struck it. Then, to free the people it had eaten, Wyper moved to cut open Nola's stomach with his bazooka. Later, Enel destroyed the Upper Ruins with a lightning strike, knocking Nola and the other fighters down to Shandora's main area; Nami and Gan Fall managed to escape through the snake's stomach in the process.

The snake was mesmerized when Nola saw the city it had grown up in for the first time in a long time and began searching the area for familiar faces. When Nola realized that nobody was there, she became depressed and started crying aloud. Enel then hit the snake with a powerful lightning bolt, knocking it unconscious. Luffy, Aisa, and Pierre were able to get away through its mouth while Nola was unconscious.

Later on, Nola dreamed that Seto and Kalgara were inviting it to come to ring the bell for Noland. Nola woke up crying in distress as they fled, making it unable to follow them. Nola began to slither wildly forward, crashing headfirst into the large beanstalk Giant Jack, which caused it to tilt slightly to the west, before losing consciousness once more. But Nola was overjoyed to cry out when she finally heard the Golden Bell ring when she woke up again.

Later, Nola joined Shandia and the Skypieans in dancing to commemorate Enel's defeat and the end of their 400-year battle over Upper Yard. Nola slept through the next day, having spent several days in nonstop celebration mode. Nola was seen dancing when Shandia and the Skypieans rang the bell later that day.

Where They Are Now

A few weeks later, Nola was spotted strolling calmly through Upper Yard with Raki, Aisa, and Conis.

From the Decks of the World

Two years after the war in Skypiea came to an end, Nola worked for the brand-new Wagomuland amusement park, which featured a bungee-jumping attraction called "Nola-Bungee" that required visitors to hold a rubber band in their mouths

Personality

Nola is incredibly drawn to the sound of the Shandorian Golden Belfry Bell ringing, and it will joyfully dance upon hearing it. Nola will grow gloomy and possibly cry if the bell doesn't ring after a while. Nola will greet those who ring the bell with great friendliness, behaving like a pet.

Even after centuries have passed, Nola will never forget the people it loses, and the snake will become just as sad and upset about being separated from the people it loves. Those who set foot on Upper Yard were afraid of Nola, the vicious predator that emerged after 400 years without hearing the sound of the bell.

Nola would hunt down humans with the intention of devouring them whole if it saw one. But when, four centuries after the Shandia arrived, the bell was finally rung to signal the end of the Skypiea-Shandia war, Nola was so ecstatic that she danced nonstop for several days and grew to be friendly with both the Skypieans and the present Shandia generation. Nola will scream and go on a wild rampage, endangering the nearby trees and buildings, if it senses pain.

Appearance

Nola is a gigantic light blue snake that rises to hundreds of meters in length and is strong enough to easily swallow whole buildings and several humans. Its width is comparable to the enormous trees on Upper Yard, and Luffy mistook its stomach for a cave. Nola has long, light blue hair along the sides of its body and dark blue stripes down its back. There are also two long whiskers by its nose.

Nola has a long, forked tongue and four sets of long fangs in its mouth. Its pupils are narrowed black and its eyes are yellow. Four centuries ago, the Shandia who found Nola thought it was just another regular viper because it was no larger than that.

Nola’s abilities, strengths, and fighting style

Nola can devour entire people and even buildings due to its enormous size, and it can completely demolish any structure it comes into contact with. After Zoro had slightly weakened the beanstalk, the snake struck the enormous Giant Jack headfirst and at a high speed, putting enough force to tilt it slightly. Nola is a large snake, but it moves very fast, making it difficult for its prey to escape.

Wyper was unable to harm Nola's scales despite giving his potent Burn Bazooka several blasts, demonstrating how resilient and powerful they are. Enel did, however, manage to render Nola unconscious with a powerful thunderbolt. Nola is capable of sending poison through its fangs, and the poison is strong enough to corrode trees in an instant.

Relationships

Mont Blanc Noland and Old Shandia

About 400 years ago, when the explorer Mont Blanc was on Jaya, Nola approached the Shandia for the first time. Noland took a quick liking to them despite the fact that they had killed its parent and grandparent only a few days before. Noland and the Shandia Kalgara were fond of the snake and showed it a great deal of kindness and consideration.

When Noland decided to come back, the Shandia informed the snake that they would ring the bell to direct him back to their island, and Seto named the snake Nola in honor of Noland. But five years after Noland arrived, tragedy struck when a Knock Up Stream launched a portion of Jaya into the sky, separating Nola from the Shandia as they were driven from the land by the Skypiea people. The snake was depicted as having a nightmare about losing Kalgara and Seto. Nola would never see Kalgara, Seto, or any other Shandia from their generation again.

New Shandia and Skypieans

Nola did not recognize Kalgara's descendants after being cut off from the Shandia for centuries, and it attacked them with the same force as any other human it came across. When Nola devoured the Shandia girl Aisa during the last invasion of Upper Yard, their leader Wyper tried to kill the snake to save Aisa.

But when the invasion came to an end and the Golden Bell rang for the first time in four centuries, the Skypieans and Shandia made peace, and Nola rejoiced with them as the snake once again coexisted peacefully with humans. After two years, Nola is pictured contentedly working as a bungee jump attraction for the kids at Wagomuland, an amusement park.
