Oars in One Piece

Oars, once known as the Continent-Puller, was an evil giant who, according to legend, controlled countries and islands with his band of villains. He had a family, and Little Oars Jr. is considered his descendant.

Five hundred years ago, Oars met his demise in the Land of Ice. Tony Tony Chopper speculated that he died from exposure to the harsh elements and frostbite, as he was ill-equipped for the frozen climate, wearing only a loincloth. Oars also had a severe injury to his right arm, which was later repaired by Hogback.

Despite his death, Oars's reputation as a fearsome villain and the "Continent-Puller" endured. Ten years before encountering the Straw Hat Pirates, Gecko Moria and Hogback obtained Oars's corpse to transform it into a zombie.

Even five centuries after his passing, Oars's legacy lived on, as high-ranking Marines like Tsuru and Doberman recognized his descendant, Little Oars Jr., and were visibly intimidated by the similar power he displayed.

Thriller Bark Arc

After Gecko Moria and Hogback found Oars's corpse in the Land of Ice, they began restoring it to use as a zombie. This involved replacing Oars's damaged right arm due to frostbite and installing a cockpit in his stomach. Oars's corpse was stored in a giant freezer on Thriller Bark until a suitable shadow was found. Monkey D. Luffy's shadow was eventually implanted into Oars's corpse, bringing him back to life.

Upon awakening, Oars broke free from his restraints and displayed traits of Luffy's personality. He thanked Moria for the food provided by other zombies, expressing gratitude despite not recognizing Moria. Oars dismissed Moria's claim that he was revived to serve as Moria's underling and decided to set sail for the sea. He punched through the freezer, leaped outside, and discovered that Thriller Bark was a ship.

Oars, believing he could become the Pirate King, climbed the ship's mast and prepared to set sail. However, he landed on a stone stairway, destroying it, and encountered some members of the Straw Hat Pirates—Zoro, Franky, Usopp, and Sanji. Oars, wearing a makeshift pirate hat, expressed readiness for his adventure.

Later, Oars found and manipulated Thriller Bark's rudder chain, causing the ship to tilt and shake. When General Zombies were sent to stop him, Oars defeated them with Gomu Gomu no Gatling and continued his quest for adventure.

Then, after being summoned by Moria, Oars obediently returned to the freezer. Moria instructed him to defeat the Straw Hat Pirates and return them to their ship. Oars attacked Luffy with Gomu Gomu no Kane, causing chaos in Thriller Bark's mansion. Unaware of Hogback below, Oars stepped on him, continuing his rampage through the mansion.

Reaching the courtyard, Oars demanded the Straw Hat Pirates to reveal themselves. Sanji confronted him, and Oars introduced himself, identifying Sanji as one of his targets. Oars attacked Sanji with Gomu Gomu no Kama, but Sanji evaded. Usopp ignited the top of Oars's head, distracting him and allowing Sanji to attack. Oars retaliated by throwing Sanji, destroying buildings in the process.

Zoro engaged Oars with Nigori-Zake, managing to slice off a fang. Oars kicked Zoro into the air, dodged Franky's bullets, and slammed a tower into the roof where Franky and Brook were. Robin caught Zoro with Spider Net, and Usopp attempted to purify Oars with salt, realizing it was insufficient. Oars stood over the seemingly defeated Straw Hats, proclaiming himself as Moria's servant.

Oars, searching for the remaining Straw Hats, punched through the mansion, accidentally hitting Wild Zombies. Surprised to see the defeated Straw Hats rise again, Oars commended their strength. He confronted them and attacked with Gomu Gomu no Shirimochi, prompting Franky to initiate Pirates Docking 6: Big Emperor.

As the Straw Hats resisted the maneuver, Oars swatted Franky, Chopper, and Usopp away. Sanji kicked rubble at Oars, causing him to lose balance on an oil puddle. Zoro used Franky's nunchuks to knock Oars's arm back, and Robin restrained it as Franky and Chopper delivered a blow to Oars's jaw. Sanji then knocked him off his feet with Anti-Manners Kick Course.

Oars, enraged, vowed to flatten the Straw Hats. However, his horns got stuck in the ground, leaving him defenseless. The Straw Hats attacked him while he screamed in terror. Oars managed to get to his feet, declaring the Straw Hats as demons. Distracted by Usopp and Chopper pretending meat was to his right, Oars was toppled by Zoro and Franky attacking his knees. Annoyed and ready to attack again, Oars prepared to face the Straw Hats once more.

Zoro deflected Oars's punch and launched a powerful air slash with Hyakuhachi Pound Ho. Oars dodged it, acknowledging its cutting power. After stomping the Straw Hats, he felt Thriller Bark moving, surprised that Moria had entered a cockpit in his stomach. Oars smashed the entrance and Usopp, who was searching for salt, but Brook saved him.

Hit by a fiery Hi no Tori Boshi, Oars panicked as flames covered him. Sanji kicked tower segments at him with Jenga Cannon. Oars punched the segments back and dodged Franky's Mortar, kicking him into a building.

At Moria's command, Oars prepared to finish Franky but was struck by Nami's Thunderbolt Tempo, briefly bringing him down. Recovering, Oars destroyed Nami's bridge with Gomu Gomu no Pistol.

Oars attacked with Gomu Gomu no Muchi, Gomu Gomu no Kane, and Gomu Gomu no Yari. Moria used Kage Kakumei to manipulate Oars's body and transformed it into a sphere for Oars Ball. Brook pierced Oars's shoulder with Rai Kotsu Ken: Gavotte Bond Avant, followed by Zoro's Nigiri Toro slash.

Oars attacked Brook with Gomu Gomu no Ono and blocked Usopp's Atlas Suisei. Attempting Gomu Gomu no Bazooka, Oars found his arms restrained by Robin, who held Moria within the cockpit. Oars wondered why he couldn't stretch anymore. Moria then stole Robin's shadow, angering Oars.

Attempting Gomu Gomu no Bazooka on Robin, Sanji deflected it with Frites Assorties. Chopper revealed Oars's replaced right arm and its vulnerability. Chopper and Sanji hit Oars's arm with Armée de L'Air Kokutei Roseo Shoot, but Oars retaliated with Gomu Gomu no Gatling.

Oars declared three opponents left. Zoro slashed Oars's right arm with Yashagarasu, angering him. Usopp shot salt into Oars's mouth, but Moria's Doppelman emerged and threw it at Usopp. Oars attacked Usopp and stomped on Nami as ordered by Moria. Hearing Nightmare Luffy, Oars attacked him with Gomu Gomu no Rifle, but Nightmare Luffy easily blocked it, punched Oars, and flipped him onto his head.

Luffy later slammed Oars into the ground and threw him into the mansion. Oars attacked with Gomu Gomu no Bullet, but Luffy slashed him and hit him with Gomu Gomu no Pistol. Oars tried Gomu Gomu no Ono, but Luffy overwhelmed him with Gomu Gomu no Storm, throwing him back. Oars claimed he wasn't hurt and stood up. Brook took Luffy to the mast, and Oars, drenched by Rain Tempo, had his legs frozen.

Sanji wrapped the rudder's chain around Oars, and Zoro straightened his spine with Three Sword Style Ogi: Sanzen Sekai. Unable to move his right arm, Oars couldn't block Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Gigant Bazooka, shattering his spine. Oars lay lifeless as Moria took Luffy's shadow, leaving Oars motionless.

Oars's original personality is mostly unknown, but he was known as a feared and ferocious giant from an evil giant clan. However, he was also quite dense, as he died from exposure to extreme cold while wearing minimal clothing.

After being implanted with Luffy's shadow, Oars inherited some of Luffy's traits. He shares Luffy's dream of becoming the Pirate King and exhibits Luffy's excitement and carnivorous nature. Oars couldn't distinguish between Usopp and Sogeking but thought Sanji looked exactly like his badly-drawn bounty poster. He also noticed unusual things about Luffy's abilities, like the absence of stretching during certain moves.

Oars is a colossal, red-skinned zombie with a skull face, standing over four times the height of an average giant. His massive size led Zoro and Franky to mistake him for a wall. He has two large horns, long yellow hair flowing to his back, and distinctive teeth—squared upper teeth and pointed lower teeth with long canines.

He's missing his right eye, and his left arm bears a "SZ-900" tattoo, indicating his status as a "Special Zombie" with the number 900. As a stitched-up zombie, Oars has visible decay on his upper right chest and right deltoid.

His right arm has been entirely replaced, showing signs of frostbite. A blue cloth stitched across his stomach hides a cockpit where Gecko Moria, his master, can watch and control Oars. Oars wears a large black loincloth with three gigantic skulls and a cross pattern strapped onto a rope.

Oars was incredibly powerful in his time, earning the nickname "Continent Puller" for his immense strength. Even as a zombie animated by Luffy's shadow, he retains this strength, displaying feats like effortlessly destroying massive chains, shattering steel freezers with a single punch, and moving Thriller Bark's massive rudder by himself.

Oars can defeat multiple enemies at once, break buildings effortlessly, and wield towers as weapons. Despite his enormous size, he's surprisingly fast and agile, leaping into the air and dodging attacks with ease.

Oars's durability is remarkable; he can endure powerful attacks from the Straw Hat Pirates, withstanding concentrated efforts to disable his already damaged right arm. However, extreme cold without proper clothing was his weakness in life, leading to his demise.

As a zombie, Oars is immune to pain, allowing him to withstand attacks without limit to stamina or damage endured. Luffy ultimately had to shatter Oars's spine to defeat him. Although painless, Oars instinctively flinches when harmed until he fully comprehends his immunity, and if his bones and nerves are severely damaged or destroyed, he becomes immobile.

Having Luffy's shadow inside him grants Oars the ability to perform some of Luffy's Devil Fruit-based techniques, like Gomu Gomu no Pistol, Gomu Gomu no Gatling, Gomu Gomu no Kane, Gomu Gomu no Kama (altered due to Oars's size), Gomu Gomu no Kazan, Gomu Gomu no Muchi, Gomu Gomu no Yari, Gomu Gomu no Ono, Gomu Gomu no Bazooka, Gomu Gomu no Stamp, Gomu Gomu no Rifle, and Gomu Gomu no Bullet.

Oars also has his own technique, Gomu Gomu no Shirimochi, where he leaps into the air and crushes opponents with his large rear end.

However, Oars can't stretch his limbs like Luffy does because he doesn't possess the actual powers of the Gomu Gomu no Mi. With Gecko Moria's Kage Kakumei, Oars can temporarily stretch his limbs, enhancing the power and range of his attacks. Despite this, Oars's body lacks other rubber attributes, making him vulnerable to attacks that Luffy would normally resist, such as blunt-force blows and lightning.

Gecko Moria

Gecko Moria wanted to use Oars to fight against one of the Four Emperors, Kaido. Initially, after being turned into a zombie, Oars resisted Moria's control and had a strong sense of individuality.

However, like all zombies, he eventually became obedient to Moria. Despite this, Oars preferred to fight his own battles and didn't like Moria interfering or fighting on his behalf.

• Oars makes a small cameo in Volume 777 as part of the Author's Notes illustration, where his size is compared to regular giants and humans.

• In response to a fan's question about Oars being from Elbaf, Oda clarified that Oars is a giant, but he is unusually large even by giant standards and not from Elbaf. Oda explained that Oars is similar to people in real life who are notably larger than others and comes from one of the many islands around the One Piece world with giants.

• When Oars briefly believes he is a robot after finding his stomach is a cockpit, he calls himself Oars Bomber.

• Oars makes a cameo in the One Piece: Gigant Battle games in the Enies Lobby stage.

• There is a rumor that the country Oars created still exists to this day.

• The Blue Deep databook stated that Oars is as large as four giants, while his descendant Little Oars Jr. is as large as two. However, according to the heights given in the Vivre Card databook, they are only seven meters apart in height at 67 and 60 meters, respectively.

• Oars' favorite food is meat in general, a result of having Luffy's shadow.
