Road was born in a village in Elbaph about 63 years before the present day. The 12-day fast before the Winter Solstice began with a celebration of his birth. His odd habits caused him to be teased by his classmates when he was younger. Hajrudin, however, was unfazed by this and instead became friends with Road after observing his aptitude for creating maritime charts.
He built a diorama in his personal home, which was once an abandoned jail facility in Elbaph. He was their "Sun God" and would often kidnap people, lock them in the diorama, and rule over them. The other giants mocked him for his behaviour; Gerd even said that Road was more shameful than the vengeful Loki.
Road joined Hajrudin in his mission to restore the Giant Warrior Pirates many years later, along with three other giants. The group joined Buggy's Delivery, a pirate delivery company, as mercenaries. They earned the level of S-Class troops and became the organization's top five earners throughout their time there.
When Hajrudin returned to Karai Bari Island, the New Giant Warrior Pirates notified Mohji that they had resigned from the Buggy's Delivery and sailed out in the Naglfar as part of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. Hajrudin had promised the loyalty of his crew to the Straw Hat Pirates. When Hajrudin decided to submit to Monkey D. Luffy, Road publicly disagreed.
When Road's pet Muginn delivered him the Thousand Sunny and a few dozing Straw Hat Pirates, he was startled. Road seized the opportunity to trap the Straw Hats inside the Land of Gods after realizing that they had crossed the Sleeping Mists, which are located between Elbaph and Egghead. Road was shocked to see the Straw Hat Pirates fighting and harming the "God" animals who guarded the entrance to the Land of Gods when he later returned to his room. Seeking retribution, he pursued and proclaimed that the Straw Hats would not get away.
He was quick to step in, even though he was irritated that Iscat was unknowingly aiding the Straw Hats in their escape. Declaring that escape was impossible, he attempted to trap them in a metal net with his staff. After being alarmed by the net's failure, he got distracted when some of his diorama's residents informed him that the Ear God had been slain.
He laughed out loud at the news, admitting that he had misjudged the Straw Hats' ability and that he found them funny. He was startled to see clouds gathering above him shortly after declaring that the Straw Hats would serve him. Then, an infuriated Nami used Zeus to electrocute him, leaving him reeling. He shortly escaped from Gerd, Goldberg, and Piper along the bridge to Elbaph, suggesting that he recovered quickly.
Road eventually arrived at the Sun World, where he encountered the Straw Hats once more. He easily fell for their trap, perhaps out of desperation or because he was a stupid person, and Sanji hit him in the head with a big log. Road tried to get back up, but when Gerd and Goldberg arrived, he quickly got down again because they were both furious with his treatment of the Straw Hats. He was rendered unconscious by the two, who then carried him back to the village and had him crucified.
He was removed during the Straw Hats banquet and used the opportunity to express regret for his earlier behavior. He was frightened when Zoro told him how nearly he had been killed in retaliation, and he tried to justify himself by saying that he was only attempting to imitate the "Sun God" that everyone on Elbaph wanted to mimic, to which other giants agreed. Road gladly works as Nami's servant and clarifies that none of the giants would notice their absence when Luffy, Zoro, and Nami later set out to release Loki.
Road was shocked to discover that the doors of Aurust Castle were broken and that neither of the guards was at their stations. Although hesitant to enter the building because he was not a member of the royal family, Road had no choice but to follow the Straw Hats as they casually approached. He revealed as he carried the Straw Hats around the castle that a fight between Loki, his father Harald, and several guards was the cause of the damage to the interior.
Road began narrating the history of King Harald, describing how he was the greatest king Elbaph had ever known and a formidable warrior descended from ancient giants. He continued by explaining that although Hajrudin wanted to someday hold the throne, he was not regarded as the next in line because he was the son of a giant from another kingdom. Road passionately declared his intention to help Hajrudin achieve his objective while praising his captain's goals. Luffy shouted shortly afterwards that he had found the guards who had gone missing.
Road watched in silence as Luffy debated the identity of their attacker with the newly awakened guards. According to the guards, it had been Shanks, but Luffy insisted that someone else had to be responsible because Shanks wouldn't commit such a horrible act without being provoked. They eventually concluded that someone else must have done it, and they continued into the castle.
Road said on the way that only one of the old giants, like Jarul, would know where the key was, but he wouldn't even think about asking because it would be illegal to free Loki. After entering the throne room, the group discovered a Magic Circle that had been mysteriously left in the middle of the space. Nami stated that they had been used to summon demons, which worried Road.
To make matters worse, Road lost his temper and tried to run away when a voice suddenly echoed around them. He dropped the Straw Hats and fell backwards as an axe was thrown into the door. Road finally recognized the voice as that of "Ya-san" (Scopper Gaban), a human Elbaph resident, Ripley's boyfriend, and Colon's father. After a brief greeting, Gaban had Road move the throne so that the secret treasure room behind it could be revealed. The key to Loki's bindings was found when the group went inside the room. Gaban, however, challenges Luffy to a duel over it since he can't let them just take it.
Road cautiously questioned Gaban's intentions after being greatly confused by his agitation over the key. Luffy takes the comment seriously, but Road pleads with the two to stop fighting and watched in horror as Gaban launched a vicious strike that made Zoro join the fight. Gaban quickly turned himself in and gave up the key, earning the rage and gratitude of Luffy and Zoro before any real battle could begin. Road was about to tell the Straw Hats who Gaban really was, but Gaban made him keep his mouth shut and asked them to meet him later, assuming they survived liberating Loki.
Luffy and Zoro leave the castle to release Loki while Nami and Road return to the town with the wounded guards. As the wounded guards were still conscious enough to hear her, Road had to play defense as Nami bitterly lamented the purpose of releasing Loki and her inability to find any wealth in the castle.
After a while, Road brought the wounded guards to Gerd, who was curious about their whereabouts and the reason for Road's presence in the castle. Gerd didn't believe Road's claim that he was only looking for fresh material to add to his diorama. Instead, he attempted to force Road into speaking by threatening him, then he attacked him and demanded an explanation.
Road's entire group was pushed into action by the possibility of Loki's release, and they tried to rush down to Elbaph's Underworld in a Svarr but ended up just falling because Svarrs don't work well in low atmosphere. Fortunately, Luffy is able to save them in time, and they try to alert him of Loki's dishonesty. But it was too late, and they watched in horror as Loki emerged from the ground, nearly unrestrained.
Road appears to be a very careful and intricate person who genuinely cares about the territories he governs. But there seems to be a limit to this concern. Additionally, he appears to have a proud side, which makes him disregard people. He appears to have a god complex as a result of his love of role-playing; he rules his diorama as the "Sun God" and, without thinking, refers to the guardians he put there as his "pets" before correcting himself and renaming them his "servants." He has also been shown to have a perverse side. Road doesn't care much about the outside world, in contrast to most other giants. Like many other characters, he has a distinctive laugh: "Defufufufu".
The entire right side of Road's face is covered in long, dark blue hair, and he is skinny. He's dressed in a dark grey fur-lined coat with buttons, dark grey fur-lined pants, a large yellow cape with lighter yellow vertical stripes, a wide brown belt with a giant yellow skull buckle, and light grey-blue shoulder plates with bumps. He also wears brown gloves on his wrists and a long scarf with yellow stripes around his neck, also covering his lips.
In the anime, he was wrapped in a pink cloth as a newborn, had short, dark brown hair, and olive skin. As the Sun God, he is dressed in a dark coat, light fur leggings, and high-heeled shoes, and he wears a deer's skull over his head.
Road probably has a lot of physical strength because he is a Giant. He belonged to the S-Class of Buggy's Delivery, which also included Hajrudin, Gerd, Stansen, and Goldberg. He is the navigator for the New Giant Warrior Pirates and possesses navigational and cartographic skills, having made sea charts when he was a young boy that were good enough to amaze Hajrudin at the time. Road is especially knowledgeable about the waters around Elbaph.
Road is also a talented craftsman who, despite his size, can create delicate and exquisite human-sized clothing. He also used blocks to create a large and complex diorama world. He carries a katana. As the Sun God, he holds a shield and wields a staff with a sun-shaped symbol at the head. There is a metallic net inside the staff head.
