Who does Nami end up with in One Piece?

Nami, also known as Cat Burglar Nami, is the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates in the popular manga series and its anime adaptation, One Piece.

Monkey D. Luffy, the protagonist of the series, and his pirate crew, known as the Straw Hat Pirates, is undoubtedly the most beloved pirate crew adored by its fans. With this unconditional adoration, fans often like to ship their favorite characters in romantic relationships which sometimes gets over the top.

Nami is one of the early members of the crew and the first woman to join the Straw Hat Pirates. She soon gain popularity and became a fan favorite. As the series progressed and the crew expanded, fans got eager to know who she would end up with. Fans started shipping Nami with other crew members of the Straw Hat Pirates. LuffyxNami and SanjixNami are the most popular ships among all of them.

Many fans believe that Nami would end up with Luffy based on their fun relationship and the fact that Luffy entrusted his straw hat, which is really important to him, on several occasions. While many fans support this fan theory, many refute it as well, stating their relationship is more like of siblings.

As devastating as this may be for some fans, hope for romantic relationships between crew members is laughed at or subtly denied by Eiichiro Oda, the author, and illustrator of the series, on multiple occasions. When asked about romantic relationships between crew members recently, Oda stated that they are in love with the adventure. Oda confirmed that as this is a shounen manga, there is practically no room for romance with some exceptions. The first romantic connection was introduced in the series after almost 11 years of its release, excluding Sanji’s love for every woman in the series.

Boa Hancock was introduced in the series and later fell in love with Luffy. Although it is a romantic relationship of some sort, it is one-sided and for comedic purposes. It is similar to Sanji’s love for women in some sense. Oda stated that the One Piece series is focused on the young generation and their adventure and there will be no romance between the Straw Hat Crew. The Straw Hat Crew is like a family filled with mischievous kids and there is no room for romantic relationships between them.

Interestingly, Eiichiro Oda is married to real-life Nami because as unbelievable as it may seem, Oda met his significant half when she was cosplaying as Nami. Chibaki Inaba, a former cosplayer, model, and race queen, was cosplaying Nami at Jump Festa 2002 for a One Piece stage show when she ran into Oda. They hit it off and after dating for a few years, they got married in 2004.
