Source/Instagram

Jackman Thomas Harlow, born March 13, 1998, is an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer from Louisville, Kentucky. Starting from 2015, Harlow had released several EPs and mixtapes before he was signed to Don Cannon and DJ Drama's record label Generation Now in 2018, an imprint of Atlantic Records. He is the co-founder of Private Garden. Harlow's music has been described as breezy and easy listening.

Harlow's first breakthrough came with the release of his 2020 single, "What's Poppin". It was at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 and received a Grammy Award nomination. Harlow was included in XXL magazine’s "2020 Freshman Class" before he released his debut studio album, That's What They All Say in 2020, which was certified platinum In the US.

In 2021, Harlow released a collaboration with Lil Nas X, "Industry Baby", which reached number one on the Hot 100. Harlow released his second album “Come Home the Kids Miss You'' in 2022, and its single, "First Class", became number one on the Hot 100.

Harlow has received several award nominations, including Top New Artist at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. In the same year, he was named Variety’s "Hitmaker of the Year" and was included in Forbes 30 Under 30. In 2022, it was announced that Harlow will make his acting debut in a remake of the 1992 film White Men Can't Jump directed by Calmatic.

Jack Harlow’s Father - Brain Harlow

Brian Harlow, and helped raise Jack on a horse farm near Shelbyville. At times, Brian couldn’t believe that Jack had created the music-shaking pictures on the wall. “Wow, you wrote that,” Brian would ask. Brian and his wife wanted Jack to go to college, but Jack had his mind set on a music career.

It took some time for Brian to accept his decision, but both he and his wife came around and supported his career. Jack grew up listening to two wildly different genres: his mom’s hip hop and his dad’s country. Brian gave him a taste of the countryside with music from Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Paycheck.

Jack Harlow’s Mother - Maggie Harlow

Maggie Harlow is a businesswoman and helped raise Jack, on a horse farm near Shelbyville. The Harlows moved from Shelbyville to Louisville. Jack's distinct inspiration for music also comes from his mom’s side, from whom he got a taste of Eminem, OutKast, A Tribe Called Quest, and Gwen Stefani.

Maggie said in an interview, “You don’t realize your kid is gonna send a meteor into your life. I kind of had to talk myself off the ledge – OK, he’s not going to college – but why shouldn’t he pursue his dream?” Maggie would often hear him practice music through their shared wall. Maggie told Louisville Magazine, “For me, that was a lullaby. It was the soundtrack of him at work.”

Maggie had just completed Malcolm Gladwell’s popular book Outliers when Jack asked her the secret to becoming the best rapper in the world. Drawing inspiration from the book, Maggie told Jack that he needed to practice for 10,000 hours, equivalent to four or five hours every day for six years.

Harlow took the advice to heart, and twelve years later, he’s become one of the trendiest rappers alive. Jack has a lot to thank both his parents for, especially his mother who said in an interview with “Signs Of The Times”, “We literally helped him craft that plan for how many hours a day he would have to practice to be the best rapper in the world.”.

Jack Harlow’s Sibling(s) - Claybon Harlow

Jack has one younger brother, Clayborn "Clay" Harlow, born in 2000. He and his brother have shared a bond over the years, with the occasional embarrassing incident.

Although we do not know much of Clay, Jack is often seen with him and in 2017 welcomed him onstage at his sold-out concert. Claiming to not be able to continue rapping for 45 minutes, Jack Harlow invited his 21-year-old brother on stage to sing him a very happy birthday.

Other Family Members

Not much is known about his extended family but his grandfather used to live down the street from designer Tommy Hilfiger. This is where Harlow’s love for Tommy Hilfiger is partly inspired. Harlow’s grandfather and Tommy’s families knew of each other.

Jack told Vanity Fair: “The first time Tommy and I got on the phone I told him my Grandpa’s last name and he immediately remembered and said that he could see my grandpa’s house from his front porch. Something about this connection made this whole partnership feel more organic and special.”

Did You Know?

Jack Harlow sampled Fergie's song 'Glamorous' on his number one hit single 'First Class'. At the end of March 2022, the song went viral on TikTok. It became number one on the Billboard Hot 100, and the first hip-hop song to reach the position that year.

Harlow has expressed his love to work with Natasha Bedingfield. As a creative person, he enjoys getting the chance to collaborate with other talented artists, though not all of them are hip-hop artists. One of the people at the top of his list is Natasha Bedingfield who is best known for songs like “Unwritten” and “Pocket Full of Sunshine”.

Harlow is recognized amongst his peers to have a great sense of humor. He loves making people laugh but he has learned that his music isn’t always the best place to do that. In an interview with Dazed, he said, “I’m a person that has a sense of humor, so every once in a while I want to say some funny shit in my music. But I always seem to wish I hadn’t. That’s why it’s been nice to be funny online because it lets me separate the two worlds.”
