After starting to dance at a tender age, Le started posting dance videos on YouTube in 2014 under his own name, ‘Michael Le’. Initially, he posted dance videos that lasted for seconds, sort of similar to Vines. Few years later, he started posting dance tutorials and challenges, like the ‘Tutting challenge,’ which helped him reach out to a wider audience, and not just the younger generation. Soon, the YouTube account was shut down for violating the website’s guidelines.
In 2019, he started another YouTube channel called JustMaiko, and started posting dance videos, tutorials and lip-sync videos, with a dose of comedic content and also including vlogs. He then started posting on TikTok in 2016. But his fame reached new heights in 2020, the year he formed ‘Shluv House’, of which creators like Spencer X were members. His main reasoning for founding the content creation group was to amplify a key aspect- being founded and run by a group of non-white creators.
Its emphasis was on being diverse and being inclusive, given the fact that the original five members are of Asian descent, including his brother Jonathan, who is his younger brother.
He also went viral in 2020 for starting the challenge of dancing on the escalator, to Latin artist Shakira’s “Hips Don’t Lie”. While being part of the Shluv House, Le did collaborations with Jason Derulo, and brands like Skechers, House Party, Motorola, and has been an ambassador for brands like Bang Drinks and Invisalign.
