Varshavski first signed up for Instagram at the beginning of 2012 to share his experiences as a medical student and dispel the myth that "you can't have a life in medical school." He has said that he struggled to communicate with females in high school, was unpopular, unorganized, and had trouble speaking in front of groups of people. However, he made a commitment to himself in college to learn how to approach ladies and step outside his comfort zone. He studied Dale Carnegie's book "How to Win Friends and Influence People" as part of this effort.

In August 2015, Varshavski became well-known after an article titled "Um, You Need To See This Hot Doctor And His Dog" appeared on Buzzfeed. The story emphasizes Varshavski's physical attractiveness and his bond with his dog Roxy. People magazine called him "the Sexiest Doctor Alive" in their Sexiest Man Alive edition that November, and he quickly gained popularity on Instagram.

Varshavski created the Limitless Tomorrow Foundation in late 2015 to give kids scholarships. To fund the organization, he has used his social media profiles to auction off experiences with himself. August of 2016 saw the launch of Mike's self-titled YouTube channel, "Doctor Mike," which currently has over 12 million subscribers.

He introduced Professionals Media Academy in March 2023, describing it as "an online training program designed for credible professionals in ANY industry who want to become sought-after experts."Upon enrollment, participants get immediate access to the full training curriculum. Varshavski delivers guidance and converses with experts in several fields. Varshavski begins each subject by outlining his most effective methods, resources, and frameworks. After that, a case study or expert interview is used to teach others.

On November 12, 1989, Varshavski was born in Saransk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union (now Russia). His mother was a math professor born in Russia, and his father, Dr. Oskar Varshavski, is a family medicine physician born in Ukraine. Varshavski is half-Jewish because his father is Jewish. He moved to Brooklyn with his family when he was six years old.

While his father was in Brooklyn for his second medical school semester, his mother was forced to work minimum-pay sweeping floors. Knowing that Varshavski's father is a doctor, friends dubbed him "Doctor Mike" when he visited him for sports-related ailments during his high school years. He was inspired to become a doctor by his father's interaction with his patients. After completing his high school education on Staten Island, he enrolled in the New York Institute of Technology, where he was granted admission to an expedited seven-year combined track leading to the completion of a doctorate in osteopathic medicine and a bachelor's degree in life sciences. He began his residency in family medicine at Atlantic Health System Overlook Medical Center in 2014.

He has three nephews, Daniel, Steven, and Ari, and an elder sister, Dasha. His mother passed away from leukemia during his first year of residency. He decided to return to his father's house and acquired Roxy, a husky, as assistance. Varshavski dated Miss Universe 2016 Pia Wurtzbach before that. He dated model Betsy Alvarez, a Cuban-born person, from 2019 to 2020.
