Germán Alejandro Garmendia Aranis is a Chilean YouTuber, singer-songwriter, comedian, and writer (born April 25, 1990). He rose to fame thanks to his YouTube channel HolaSoyGerman, where he posted amusing videos about commonplace events.
His gameplay channel, JuegaGerman, has the second-highest number of subscribers. After the Argentine channel El Reino Infantil, it has the second-highest number of subscribers among Spanish-language channels.
Outside of his work on YouTube, he formed a band called Ancud with his brother Diego in April and has released several songs in his solo career. In 2016, he became the first YouTuber to win two Diamond plaques. He published #ChupaElPerro, his debut book, in the same month. Di Hola, a different book, was published in 2018.

His first video, titled “Las Cosas obvias de la vida”, was posted on the HolaSoyGerman channel on September 9, 2011. (lit. “The obvious things in life”). [The videos on the channel featured humorous monologues discussing events from daily life. Garmendia said during a BBC Mundo interview that “My humour is very innocent on YouTube. I’ve always enjoyed making fun of myself rather than other people to get people to laugh.”

“Como Encontrar Trabajo”, the final HolaSoyGerman video, was posted by Garmendia on November 20. In response to a Spanish YouTuber who accused HolaSoyGerman of using drugs to produce his videos, HolaSoyGerman explained in a 2018 video titled “Esto pasa si Busco mi Nombre en YouTube” that it was because of the time and effort it took to create each of his videos.
Garmendia won the “Master Gamer” category of the 2016 MTV Millennial Awards in June. The event took place at the Pepsi Center WTC in Mexico City. He was the first YouTuber to receive two Diamond plates for reaching 10 million subscribers on both of his channels.
