Ryan Kaji's mother, Kieu-Loan Guan or Loann Kaji, was born in Vietnam and spent part of her childhood in a refugee camp on Bidong Island, Malaysia. Her family fled Vietnam by boat and moved through refugee camps in Malaysia and Singapore before finally reaching the United States. Loann grew up in Houston, where she aspired to become a teacher.

However, at the age of 18, in 2002, she was accused of stealing and was arrested for shoplifting at a JC Penney department store. She ended up with a fine and community service, in addition to six months of probation but violated probation in 2003 and ended up serving 30 days in jail.

Ryan's mother, Kieu-Loan Guan, better known as Loann Kaji, was born on April 28, 1984, which makes her 40 years old as of May 2024.

Kieu-Loan Guan, better known as Loann Kaji, is a key figure in the success of her family's YouTube empire. She manages her son Ryan Kaji's hugely popular channels and associated businesses. Prior to her full-time involvement in YouTube, Loann worked as a high school chemistry teacher and was certified to teach English as a second language.
