Jean launched his career as a content creator and gaming YouTuber in 2013 when he registered his main channel on May 17, 2013. The channel was initially called Sernandoe before Jean decided to drop the ‘e’ at some point later in the future and therefore, his current YouTube channel is called Sernando.
Jean’s first video on YouTube was titled, GTA 5:: Bank Robbery & Cop Chase Gameplay! (Grand Theft Auto 5 Gameplay). The video was uploaded three months after he registered his YouTube channel, on September 21, 2013. Compared to other gaming YouTubers at the time, Sernando’s content offered a unique comedy storyline that he would create impromptu while playing it. The video earned over 62,588 views and allowed Jean to earn an audience for his hilarious gameplay content.
Following his debut video, Sernando started uploading more GTA V content which featured different MODs, tips & tricks, patch updates, and news, and glitches which cemented his position as one of the leading content creators when it came solely to GTA V.
Jean continued uploading GTA V content for over two years before he started gaining attention for the wrong reasons. Jean’s tendency to make outrageous titles for his videos rallied the GTA V community against him as they accused him of intentionally selecting clickbait titles for videos, fake giveaways, fake content, and multiple 10:01 videos for over two years.
Thanks to multiple YouTube copy strikes for his misleading metadata and thumbnails, the Sernando YouTube channel was banned for the first time in May of 2015. This initial ban however only lasted for a month and Jean was back to uploading clickbait and fake content in order to gain more views. At this point in time, Sernando had roughly over 400,000 subscribers.
Despite all this notoriety attached to Jean’s content, his channel continued to see growth in the years to come and thanks to a number of fake videos centered around the release of GTA 6 and sneak peaks of its gameplay. This video was uploaded on November 22, 2015, and by September 18, 2016, the channel had earned the coveted 1 million subscriber mark.
However, shortly after this, Jean’s content became increasingly clickbaity and even started posting content related to GTA V under the garb of discussing his personal life.
Around this point in time, the GTA V community had enough of his fake content and misleading thumbnails. Other prominent GTA V content creators started calling out Jean for his less than moral approach to earning content with popular GTA V YouTubers like GreatnessTV and RaggedyDan even making expose videos in an attempt to call Jean out.
Around late 2017, October to be specific, Jean admitted that he was indeed a click baiter and admitted to not resorting to clickbait in the future. However, this was a little too late, with a lot of pressure mounting on YouTube once again, Sernando’s YoTube channel was banned for the second time on January 9, 2018. By this time the channel had amassed over 2.7 million subscribers, however, Sernando returned to YouTube in March 2018. This ban cost Jean around 50,000 subscribers and YouTube formally removed Sernando’s channel from any search results for a week.
Since then, Sernando seems to have toned his clickbait titles and thumbnails a bit and Jean even tried his hand at becoming a Fortnite content creator. He uploaded his first Fortnite-related video on August 23, 2018, and the video earned over 580K views. However, most of his videos for Fortnite still rely on the element of exaggeration in order to gain more subscribers and views.
Jean’s YouTube channel earned over 500 million views and over 3 million subscribers by the end of 2018 as reported by SocialBlade. Currently, Jean is focusing on bringing back GTA V content on his main channel. He is witnessing the highest viewership his account has ever seen thanks to the release of YouTube Shorts. As of August 2022, his Sernando YouTube channel has earned over 910,808,915 views and accrued over 6.56 million subscribers.
After Jean’s main channel was banned for the first time in 2015, he registered his second YouTube channel under the name jeen on January 6, 2016. What seems to be a backup channel in case he gets banned again, this channel currently has only four videos on it which have earned him over 81.8K subscribers and 652,738 views as of August 2022.
According to Net Worth Spot, Jean Sernandoe is worth $242,600 as of August 2022, however, some sources suggest his net worth could be as high as $3 million. Every day, more than 33,690 people view Jean’s Sernando YouTube channel. On average, YouTubers can make $3 to $7 for every thousand video views. According to Net Worth Spot, Sernando makes an estimated $4,040 per month and $60,650 annually.
However, these are conservative estimates and Jean could very well earn over $109,170 via ad revenue alone. SocialBlade suggests the Sernando YouTube channel earns anywhere between $8,500-$136,100 per month and anywhere between $102,100-$1.6 million per year.
