Late Jonathan Grant Thompson's YouTube channel, TKOR (previously known as The King of Random), showcases DIY crafts and experiments using massive amounts of a single item. Thompson established the channel in 2010 and ran it till his death in 2019. Thompson's friends and family now administer the channel, which no longer focuses on DIY but instead features "life hacks, experiments, and random weekend projects."
Thompson was the first to anchor the channel, followed by sculptors Nate Bonham and Calli Gade, and meteorologist Grace Dirig. Bonham and Gade quit TKOR in 2021, alleging creative issues with management and a decline in viewership. On July 29, 2024, the channel had 12.5 million subscribers. TKOR has three channels: "2KOR" for behind-the-scenes stuff, "TKOR Shorts" for using YouTube's "Shorts" function, and "The King of Random en Español" for videos from the main channel in Spanish.

At 29, Grant Thompson, an airline pilot based in Farmington, Utah, became interested in how things functioned. In his leisure time, he started experimenting with various home projects. Thompson decided to spread the word about his initiatives when his friends took notice and expressed interest. On January 3, 2010, he created a YouTube channel called "01032010814," which reflects the precise day and hour of its inception. The channel's second video marked the start of his DIY and life-hacking series.
By late 2011, Thompson was motivated to create a branded YouTube channel dedicated to life tips. Thompson used the moniker "King of Random" for his channel because a buddy called him the "King of Random" because of his varied endeavors. Early in 2012, he renamed his existing channel "The King of Random."
The first video under the new moniker, "How to Make Slime (Ninja Turtle Ooze)," premiered on September 6, 2012. Thompson had very little expertise with video editing at the time. He purchased an introduction clip from a freelancer and began playing with Adobe Premiere on his neighbor's PC. Determined to create high-quality footage, he spent time acquiring filming and editing abilities before purchasing Adobe Premiere for himself. Thompson saw the channel's early success as a sign of future expansion. He transformed his basement into a specialized studio, prepared to tackle a variety of project ideas. Thompson began adding more people to supervise production as the channel grew in popularity.
Thompson steadily reduced his flying hours as "The King of Random" grew in popularity, finally quitting from flight to focus solely on his YouTube channel. Nate Bonham first appeared as a co-host on September 9, 2017, and quickly became a permanent fixture. Calli Gade started as a co-host on October 25, 2018. Although Thompson was initially active in the channel's daily operations, he eventually stepped back to spend more time with his family before his death in July 2019. Janae, his wife, eventually took over ownership of the channel.
Kennen Hutchison, Grace Dirig, and Kevin DeBruin made their debut as co-hosts in September 2020. They participated with Nate and Calli, with different hosts appearing in each video. On March 24, 2021, the channel established a secondary channel called "2KOR," which would feature experiments, responses, and behind-the-scenes videos. However, DeBruin and Hutchison ended their collaboration in early 2021, with DeBruin leaving due to an agreement conflict. In May 2021, the channel's name was changed from "The King of Random" to "TKOR."
Gade left the channel on July 9, 2021, claiming a lack of options and expressed grief at departing. After her departure, the channel was only presented by Bonham and Dirig, with Hutchison anticipated to return under COVID-19 limitations. On July 16, 2021, TKOR launched the Grant Thompson Outward Bound Scholarship.
On November 15, 2021, TKOR debuted its weekly podcast, "Random Theory," which is presented by Grace Dirig and Josh Alvey and focuses on scientific concerns in an interesting way. However, on December 27, 2021, Bonham, the channel's principal cameraman, was sacked, leaving Dirig as the only host. Despite these changes, Bonham and Gade have continued to collaborate on numerous projects.
Jonathan was born on November 21, 1980, and died in 2019 in a car accident near Utah. His family reported him missing to the Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) around 10:30 p.m. when he did not return from his excursion that day. Officers discovered his body and a recording device after connecting to his location via GPS.
TKOR has a following of over 12.5 million subscribers on his YouTube channel. The TKOR YouTube channel's main content includes prank videos, experiment videos, and DIY videos.
Aside from their entertaining content, they have curated several captivating video series playlists. One such series, Popular Experiments, features a series of famous experiment videos in 248 episodes.

Thompson was accused in January 2018 with two charges of second-degree felony possession of an explosive device after reportedly performing incendiary experiments in his garden. Thompson, who faced a potential jail sentence of 15 years, consented to a plea bargain. Thompson agreed to film two YouTube videos teaching viewers about the "physical safety and legal risks associated with experiments that could be dangerous" in exchange for the charges being reduced to a suspended sentence of misdemeanor carelessness with an incendiary device.
