Evan Fong, known online as VanossGaming (or simply Vanoss), is a Canadian internet personality, video game commentator, music producer, and DJ. He uploads montage-style films of himself and other developers playing games like Grand Theft Auto V and Garry's Mod on YouTube.
In addition, he works as a DJ and music producer under the name Lynx, acted as the creative director of the video game Dead Realm, and provided the voices for the animated series Alpha Betas and the YouTube Premium series Paranormal Action Squad.
Fong stated that although he was not exposed to video games at a young age, he did play them "here and there," including kid-friendly puzzle and adventure games like Freddi Fish and Pajama Sam. Outside of his work for YouTube, Fong continues to play ice hockey for fun, competes in airsoft and other tournaments, and enjoys playing the guitar.

On September 15, 2011, Fong launched the YouTube channel VanossGaming. The word “Vanoss” is derived from the VANOS variable valve timing system made by the German automaker BMW. Fong’s father used the PlayStation 3 identity “vanoss62,” which his son eventually adopted as his own.
“Black Ops 2: Get Cut Off! (Last Words Montage / Funny Game Chat Moments Before Death)” is one of his earliest videos up for public viewing. This video shows a montage of players’ sentences getting cut off in the game Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
As he neared 11 million subscribers and was included among the top 25 most subscribed YouTube channels in January 2015, Fong started to draw the attention of the mainstream media. Then, he claimed that the reason for his popularity was that “Viewers really prefer the authentic type of content from regular individuals just playing games because they can relate to that.” Alongside teammates I Am Wildcat, Lui Calibre, and Mini Ladd, he took part in the “YouTube Gaming Evolution” panel at PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts, in March 2015.
Vanoss’ channel launched in September 2011, but according to SocialBlade, its fan base didn’t truly begin to expand until the beginning of 2012. He was adding over 18.9 thousand monthly subscribers by July of 2012. He began to acquire popularity, and around a year later, he was gaining over 361.3 thousand monthly subscribers.
Vanoss continued to see significant development, earning an astounding 1.1 million monthly members by the beginning of 2014—the most subscribers he had ever received in a single month and more than many other channels like Smosh in January of the same year.
