Plains in Minecraft

Minecraft plains are characterized into four types - Sunflower Plains, Meadows, Snowy Plains and Ice Spikes.

Sunflower Plains

Sunflower Plains are exactly what they sound like: Plains with Sunflowers, and they are in fact the only place in the game where you can get Sunflowers. In addition to being a source of yellow dye, they always face East, making them a reliable naturally occurring compass.

Meadow

A high-altitude version of the plains biome, these appear in mountainous regions and are filled with many different varieties of flowers. This is the only variant to have rabbits, and is also the only high-altitude biome where villages can appear. Meadows will very rarely have a single tree, but if one is present, it will always have a Bee Nest.

Snowy Plains

The cold version of Plains which usually appears around other cold biomes can spawn polar bears and rabbits, as well as Igloos. In this biome, Skeletons may turn into Strays, tougher versions whose arrows will inflict slowness.

Ice Spikes

An even colder version of Snow Plains, these have giant towers of Packed Ice spikes, making this the only Plains biome that is difficult to navigate. Further, the top layer of dirt is replaced with Snow Blocks, making this a good biome to acquire that material. However, Strays are more likely to appear here.

The relatively flat surface makes it easier for players to find and catch chickens, cows, donkeys, horses, pigs, rabbits, polar bears (in the snowy and ice spike variants) and sheep. Chicken, pigs and cows are spawned here more than the rest.

The most commonly found resources in plains are the Bee’s nest, grass blocks, logs, leaves and sunflowers. These resources are regional, so you’d find Ice, snow, snow blocks and spruce logs in the snowy and ice spikes variants.

Plains are a crucial biome in the game. Being one of the oldest existing biomes, players tend to work their way through the game utilizing plains and all their resources to the fullest. It is one of the easiest biomes for survival. Having an abundance of resources and passive mobs, farming is a common sight in the plains.
