In Minecraft, brewing is the process of creating potions using a brewing stand. To make a potion, the player must first add a base potion to the brewing stand, then add one or more ingredients to the potion to change its properties. Some components can be found worldwide, while others must be crafted. Once the ingredients are added, the potion must be left to brew for a certain amount of time before it is finished.
There are over fifty brewing recipes for potions in Minecraft. In this article, we will be touching on some of the essential ones, and with time, we will be adding more and more to the list.
At present, there are two categories into which Portions have been classified in Minecraft:
In order to activate the effects of the splash potion, you need to throw it on a hard surface. Splash Potions are used to have poisonous or any other health-depreciating effect on the mobs. Splash Potions can be used to give players effects such as increased speed, strength, and health regeneration, as well as adverse effects such as blindness and poison.
Lingering Potions can be thrown to create potion cloud which persists for a certain amount of time or dripped on the tips of arrows for effects. These clouds can affect players and mobs that come into contact with them, similar to splash potions.
Players combine a splash potion with a Dragon's breath in a brewing stand to make a lingering potion.
Lingering potions can also be used to make tipped arrows that can be fired from a crossbow, which will apply the effect upon impact. The effect duration of the potion cloud is longer than the splash potion effect.
These potions are helpful in multiplayer games, where they can create traps or defend an area.
Here are the basic steps to brewing a potion in Minecraft:
Obtain a brewing stand by crafting it using a blaze rod and three cobblestone blocks.
Add water bottles to the bottom three slots of the brewing stand to create the base potion.
Add one or more ingredients to the top slot of the brewing stand to modify the potion.
Wait for the potion to brew. The brewing time varies depending on the ingredients used.
Once the potion is done brewing, take it out of the brewing stand by right-clicking on the glass bottle.
You can also use blaze powder to speed up the brewing process.
Some common ingredients in Minecraft include:
Nether wart: necessary for all potion recipes.
Glowstone dust: increases the duration of the potion effect.
Redstone dust: decreases the duration of the potion effect.
Dragon's breath: used to make splash potions.
Gunpowder: used to make splash potions.
You can also add different ingredients to make different potion effects, such as:
Night Vision

Step 2: Fill the top slot of the brewing stand with water bottles.
Step 3: Add the fermented spider eye to one of the water bottles.
Step 4: Wait for the potion to finish brewing, which will take about 20 seconds.
Step 5: Once the potion is finished brewing, it will be a potion of Weakness.
To brew a potion of Fire Resistance, you will need a brewing stand, blaze powder, water bottles, and magma cream.
Step 1: Place the brewing stand and add blaze powder to it to activate it.
Step 2: Fill the top slot of the brewing stand with water bottles.
Step 3: Add the magma cream to one of the water bottles.
Step 4: Wait for the potion to finish brewing, which will take about 20 seconds.
Step 5: Once the potion is finished brewing, it will be a potion of Fire Resistance.
To brew a potion of Healing, you will need a brewing stand, blaze powder, water bottles, and a glistering melon.
Step 1: Place the brewing stand and add blaze powder to it to activate it.
Step 2: Fill the top slot of the brewing stand with water bottles.
Step 3: Add the glistering melon to one of the water bottles.
Step 4: Wait for the potion to finish brewing, which will take about 20 seconds.
Step 5: Once the potion is finished brewing, it will be a potion of Healing.
To brew a potion of Night Vision, you will need a brewing stand, blaze powder, water bottles, and a golden carrot.
Step 1: Place the brewing stand and add blaze powder to it to activate it.
Step 2: Fill the top slot of the brewing stand with water bottles.
Step 3: Add the golden carrot to one of the water bottles.
Step 4: Wait for the potion to finish brewing, which will take about 20 seconds.
Step 5: Once the potion is finished brewing, it will be a potion of Night Vision.
Note: You can add different ingredients to the potion to make them stronger or add different effects. For example, adding a Redstone dust to a potion of Night Vision will make it last longer.
To brew a potion of invisibility in Minecraft, you will need a brewing stand, a blaze powder to fuel the stand, a fermented spider eye, a potion of water, and a nether wart. Here are the steps to brew the potion:
Step 1: Place the blaze powder in the fuel slot of the brewing stand.
Step 2: Add the fermented spider eye to any ingredient slot of the brewing stand.
Step 3: Add the potion of water to the ingredient slot next to the fermented spider eye.
Step 4: Add the nether wart to the top ingredient slot of the brewing stand.
Step 5: Wait for the brewing process to complete. This will create a potion of invisibility.
You can then use this potion by right-clicking it, or you can combine it with a splash potion and gunpowder to make a splash potion of invisibility, or combine it with an arrow to make a Tipped Arrow of invisibility. Note that you can also add glowstone dust to make it a stronger potion and Redstone dust to make it last longer.
Please note that the Invisibility potion is not working on Enderman and Shulker. Also, it will not work if you are holding an item.
To brew a lingering potion of decay in Minecraft, you will need a brewing stand, blaze powder to fuel the stand, a splash potion of poison, a Dragon's breath, and a nether wart. Here are the steps to brew the potion:
Step 1: Place the blaze powder in the fuel slot of the brewing stand.
Step 2: Add the splash potion of poison to any ingredient slot of the brewing stand.
Step 3: Add the Dragon's breath to the ingredient slot next to the splash potion of poison.
Step 4: Wait for the brewing process to complete. This will create a lingering potion of decay.
This potion will create a cloud of poison that will damage any player or mob that enters it for a certain amount of time. You can throw the potion to create the cloud, or you can also use it to make a Tipped Arrow of decay which can be fired from a crossbow.
The Lingering Potion of Decay doesn’t exist in the Vanilla version of Minecraft.
To brew a lingering potion of regeneration in Minecraft, you will need a brewing stand, blaze powder to fuel the stand, a splash potion of regeneration, a Dragon's breath, and a nether wart. Here are the steps to brew the potion:
Step 1: Place the blaze powder in the fuel slot of the brewing stand.
Step 2: Add the splash potion of regeneration to any ingredient slot of the brewing stand.
Step 3: Add the Dragon's breath to the ingredient slot next to the splash potion of regeneration.
Step 4: Wait for the brewing process to complete. This will create a lingering potion of regeneration.
This potion will create a cloud of regeneration that will heal any player or mob that enters it for a certain amount of time. You can throw the potion to create the cloud, or you can also use it to make a Tipped Arrow of regeneration which can be fired from a crossbow.
Please note that this potion will not affect undead mobs like zombies, skeletons, and withers; also, it will not work if you are holding an item.
To brew a splash potion of poison in Minecraft, you will need a brewing stand, blaze powder to fuel the stand, a potion of poison, gunpowder, and a nether wart. Here are the steps to brew the potion:
Step 1: Place the blaze powder in the fuel slot of the brewing stand.
Step 2: Add the poison potion to any ingredient slot of the brewing stand.
Step 3: Add the gunpowder to the ingredient slot next to the potion of poison.
Step 4: Wait for the brewing process to complete. This will create a splash potion of poison.
You can throw this potion by right-clicking it, creating a cloud of poison that will damage any player or mob that enters it for a certain amount of time. You can also add glowstone dust to make it a more potent potion and Redstone dust to make it last longer.
Please note that splash potion of poison will not affect undead mobs like zombies, skeletons, and withers.
