How to make Night Vision Potion in Minecraft

The hardest part of brewing potions is finding a nether fortress. The fortress will house blaze and the nether wart necessary to make night vision potions. You will need to defeat some blaze enemies in order to get blaze rods, a material used for crafting the brewing stand as well as fueling it.

You will need water bottles to hold the potion’s effect. Glass bottles are made from glass, so dig up some sand and smelt it into the three glass pieces you need.

Nether wart is necessary to create the base for night vision potions: the awkward potion. Nether wart can also be grown in the overworld as long as you have soul sand. Make sure to plant some so you have extra for future potions.

The golden carrot is used to turn awkward potions into night vision potions. You will need one carrot and eight gold nuggets.

In a Nutshell:

To make a Potion of Night Vision, open the brewing stand. In the brewing stand UI, place your water bottle in one of the bottom three boxes. Then place a nether wart in the top box, and wait for the arrow to fill up completely. Now place your golden carrot in the top box in the UI of the brewing stand. After about a few seconds, the awkward potion will turn into a Potion of Night Vision (3:00).

Here is the step-by-step pictorial guide you need to follow to make Night Vision Potion in Minecraft:

Let’s start by getting the primary ingredient for night vision potions, the golden carrot. To make a golden carrot you will need to harvest some carrots. They can be found in villages, dropped rarely by zombies, or found in shipwreck or pillager tower chests.

Step 1) Locate a village farm, villages can almost guarantee you find carrots. Every village farm has a 1/5 chance to generate carrots in their farm plots. You can distinguish carrots from the other crops by their orange base and green leafy tops.

Step 2) Next you will need to find a gold ingot to create a golden carrot. Gold ore can be found anywhere below “Y” level 31. You can also find it in badland biomes near the surface. The ore is notable by its yellow flecks and you will need at least an iron pickaxe to mine it.

Step 3) Smelt your gold ore into ingots. Place your gold into a furnace and wait for it to smelt into ingots. To learn how to make a furnace refer to this guide. Link

Step 4) Place an ingot into the crafting menu to make gold nuggets.

Step 5) Surround a carrot with your gold nuggets to craft a golden carrot. You now have the primary ingredient for brewing night vision potions. Now you just need a brewing stand. You can make one with the drops from blaze enemies and cobblestone.

Step 6) You will need to go to the nether in order to find blaze. Build a nether portal by placing obsidian four blocks wide and five blocks tall.

Step 7) Next light the nether portal with some flint and steel. To make flint and steel you will need an iron and a flint. Simply place the flint and the iron ingot into your crafting menu in any of the nine crafting spaces and you can start traversing the nether.

.Step 8) To light your portal make sure you light one of the inside obsidian blocks, stand in the portal for a few seconds and be ready to face the fiery depths of the nether.

Step 9) Next you will need to locate a nether fortress. These fortresses can be extremely rare, if you are fortunate your portal may generate right on top of one.

Step 10) Once you have located the red/purple hue of the brick you know you have found your fortress! Your next step will be locating the blaze that spawn intermittently throughout the fortress.

A blaze spawner can make your life much easier if you are lucky enough to find one.

Step 11) Simply defeat enough blaze until you have a decent supply of blaze rods. You will need at least one blaze rod to make the brewing stand and any extra can become fuel for the brewing stand itself. So make sure to find extra blaze rods.

Run throughout your fortress until you come across a staircase with some soul sand and some red fungus growing. This is the nether wart you will need to brew your night vision potion.

After you have collected all your materials, head to safety and back to your crafting table. Using your blaze rod, combine it with three pieces of cobblestone in a crafting table to make a brewing stand.

Step 12) Your brewing stand will need some blaze powder in order to work. Just place a blaze rod into your crafting menu to make blaze powder. Each blaze rod will yield two blaze powder.

Step 13) Right-click your brewing stand to open its UI. Place your blaze powder in the top left slot to fuel your brewing stand.

Step 14) Next you will need some glass bottles. Smelt some sand in a furnace to make glass and arrange three pieces of glass in a “v” shape in a crafting menu to make glass bottles.

Step 15) With your glass bottles, right-click any water source to fill your bottles up and get water bottles. Right-click your brewing stand and place the water bottles at the bottom.

Step 16) You are almost done! Place your nether wart in the final slot, wait for the bottles to fill up, and you will have your base for the night vision potion: the awkward potion.

Step 17) Leave the awkward potions at the bottom and grab your golden carrot. Place it in the same slot that the nether wart was in. After the bottles have filled up you will have three potions of night vision.

That is it! Your night vision potions will last three minutes and can help you see in caves, underwater, in the nether, and anywhere else that it is dark as if it were a bright and sunny day. These potions can help you locate ore, spot fortresses at a distance, and track down underwater shipwrecks and temples.

You can see better in the dark by using the Night Vision effect, a status effect that raises the brightness level to 15. Additionally, it enhances underwater eyesight. Night Vision is available in several levels, namely Night Vision II, III, IV, and etc. There aren't any benefits right now to using higher Night Vision levels.

Congratulations! Brewing potions involve a lot of work, but the payoff can be massive. Once you get used to having the night vision effect it may be difficult playing without it. The sight bonus is helpful and can help you spot rewards or danger sooner than you could without it. Carrots and gold are a relatively cheap investment to make to ensure you can always see better. Grow carrots in a plot of land and keep a stock of gold on hand to always see what is in front of you.
