Bucket of Axolotl may sound like a powerful elixir, but it is actually a harmless ally! Axolotls are fish that were added to Minecraft in update 1.17. In this update, not only is the regular fish added, but you also can keep it within a bucket and bring it around with you! These Axolotls are harmless creatures that only do one heart of damage. They are not dogs and will not defend you, but at least they are cute!
You can find wild Axolotls in rivers, normally in the lush caves biome. Much like squid, these do not spawn all the time and a given river must have enough depth to support marine life. There is a slim chance, at about 0.008%, for these Axolotls to spawn as a rare, golden variant. Keep an eye out for these creatures as you explore any nearby rivers or bodies of water.
You need a Bucket and water before finding an Axolotl, but you can find water easily.
With a Bucket of Water, approach an Axolotl. Press the use key on the Axolotl to place it in your own Bucket!
Catch the Axolotl by pressing the use key while holding a Bucket of Water
Q. Can you catch other mobs this way?
There are a few other examples of fish that will sit happily inside of a bucket. These fish are the Cod Fish and Clown Fish.
Axolotls are an adorable, if predatory, animal. These pink or gold cuties will headbutt their prey and predators alike. These salamanders can even defend you if you feed them with certain fish and tame them. The Axolotl is a wonderful, adorable new addition to the repertoire of creatures currently available in Minecraft! Be careful and do not place your Axolotl out of range of water or he will dry up and die!
