The Bedrock Edition of Minecraft received a significant update known as The Wild Update, specifically version 1.19.0 for Android, iOS, iPadOS, Fire, Windows, Xbox, and PlayStation, and version 1.19.1 for Nintendo Switch. This update, released on June 7, 2022, marked the introduction of various new features. The announcement for this update took place on October 16, 2021, during Minecraft Live 2021.
The key additions in The Wild Update include the inclusion of the deep dark biome and the mangrove swamp biome. These biomes offer players new and diverse environments to explore within the game. Additionally, several new mobs were introduced, such as the allay, the frog, the tadpole, and the warden, each with their own unique characteristics and behaviors.
The update also brought along a range of new items that players can acquire and utilize. Notable additions include sculk blocks, which have various applications within the game, and other items specifically designed for decorative purposes. These new items provide players with additional options for building and customizing their in-game creations.
Froglight is a new block added in The Wild Update.
It is dropped by small magma cubes when they are eaten by frogs.
There are three variants of Froglight: pearlescent (purple), verdant (green), and ochre (yellow).
The variant dropped depends on the type of frog that eats the magma cube.
If a warm (white) frog eats the magma cube, a pearlescent froglight is dropped.
If a cold (green) frog eats the magma cube, a verdant froglight is dropped.
If a temperate (orange) frog eats the magma cube, an ochre froglight is dropped.
Froglight emits a light level of 15, providing significant illumination.
Frog Spawn is another addition in The Wild Update It is a non-solid block that can be placed on the surface of water.
Frog Spawn disappears when the water beneath it is removed.
In survival mode, it cannot be obtained by breaking it; it does not drop, even with Silk Touch.
Frogs lay FrogSpawn after mating when they are bred with slimeballs.
After some time, the FrogSpawn hatches into tadpoles.
The type of tadpole it grows into depends on the biome in which it resides.
Mangrove Leaves are generated within mangrove trees, which are found in mangrove swamps.
They serve as decorative blocks.
Mangrove leaves can grow mangrove propagules if bone meal is applied to them.
Mangrove Logs are a type of log that is generated as part of mangrove trees in mangrove swamps.
They can be crafted into mangrove planks and wood.
Mangrove Logs also have a stripped variant.
Mangrove Planks are crafted from mangrove logs.
They can be used to craft various building elements such as slabs, stairs, fences, fence gates, pressure plates, signs, buttons, doors, boats, and trapdoors.
Mangrove Propagule is a new type of sapling introduced in the update.
When planted, it grows into a mangrove tree.
The propagule grows underneath mangrove leaves.
Applying bone meal to mangrove leaves accelerates the growth process.
The propagule has four stages of growth before becoming fully grown, and bone meal can speed up this process.
A fully grown propagule can be broken off and planted to grow a mangrove tree.
It can be planted both on land and underwater.
Mangrove Propagules can also be placed in flower pots.
Bees can pollinate them, and players can attract and breed bees by holding the propagules.
Mangrove Roots are see-through decorative blocks similar to leaves but can be waterlogged.
Unlike regular leaves, they do not break when moved by a piston.
Mining them is faster when using axes.
Mangrove Roots have unique sounds associated with them.
Mangrove Wood is a new type of wood introduced in the update.
It can be used to craft mangrove planks.
There is also a stripped variant of Mangrove Wood.
Mud is a new block found in mangrove swamp biomes.
It can be created by using a water bottle directly on dirt, coarse dirt, or rooted dirt, or through a dispenser.
Mud can be converted into clay by placing it above a block with pointed dripstone underneath, which dries it out and produces a clay block.
This addition enables renewable clay in Bedrock Edition, similar to its availability in Java Edition.
When entities walk on mud, they sink down a bit, similar to soul sand but without the slowdown effect.
Endermen can also hold mud blocks.
Mud Bricks can be crafted using 4 packed mud blocks.
They can further be crafted into mud brick slabs, stairs, and walls using a crafting table or stonecutter.
Muddy Mangrove Roots are found in mangrove swamp biomes.
They can be crafted by combining 1 mud block and 1 mangrove root.
Unlike regular roots, they are opaque blocks that cannot be waterlogged.
Muddy Mangrove Roots are full blocks, similar to lichen.
Packed Mud can be crafted using 1 mud block and 1 wheat.
It can be used to craft mud bricks.
Reinforced Deepslate is a new block exclusively found in ancient cities and appears in the shape of a large frame.
It cannot be crafted and does not drop anything when broken, even with Silk Touch.
This block possesses exceptional durability and resistance, being completely blast-resistant and immune to damage from withers and ender dragons.
Mining Reinforced Deepslate is an arduous task, requiring an incredibly long amount of time of approximately 82.5 seconds, which is almost nine times longer than mining obsidian with a diamond pickaxe.
Unlike regular blocks, Reinforced Deepslate cannot be moved using pistons.
Sculk is a block that generates in the deep dark biome.
It has an animated texture, adding a dynamic element to its appearance.
Breaking Sculk blocks without Silk Touch only yields experience, and they do not drop any items.
When destroyed by TNT explosions, Sculk blocks do not drop experience or any other items.
Sculk blocks have the ability to grow when a mob dies near a Sculk Catalyst.
Sculk Catalyst is another block found in the deep dark biome.
It emits soul particles when a mob dies within an 8-block radius and facilitates the growth of Sculk-related blocks.
It spreads Sculk blocks to nearby areas whenever a mob dies. The amount of spread depends on the experience the mob is intended to drop.
Even if a mob doesn't drop experience (e.g., when not killed by a player), Sculk blocks still spread based on the standard experience amount.
The charge of the Sculk Catalyst decays over time, with the decay occurring faster the farther away it moves from the catalyst.
If the charge decays more than 4 blocks away from the catalyst, there is a 90% chance of creating a Sculk Sensor and a 10% chance of creating a Sculk Shrieker.
If the charge decays more than 24 blocks away from the catalyst, it simply disappears.
Breaking Sculk Catalyst without Silk Touch only yields experience.
It emits a light level of 6.
The Sculk Catalyst Bloom is a visual effect that occurs when the Sculk Catalyst is activated.
Sculk Shrieker is a block found in the deep dark biome.
It features two soul-shaped patterns in the center and has the ability to emit ring-like or sonic particles known as "shrieks."
It can be activated by a Sculk Sensor, a redstone signal, or a player's movement.
Sculk Shriekers only summon wardens if there isn't already one within a 48-block radius.
When activated, it gives players the Darkness effect.
If activated three times, it summons a warden from the ground.
Players have four levels of warning_level (0-3), which increase by 1 each time the Shrieker is activated and never decrease.
Once a player has successfully summoned a warden, only one subsequent activation is required to summon a warden again.
Breaking Sculk Shrieker without Silk Touch yields only experience.
It has a blockstate called "can_summon," which determines whether it can summon a warden or not.
By default, Sculk Shriekers placed via world generation have the "can_summon" blockstate set to true, while those placed by players or generated through Sculk spread have it set to false.
Sculk Vein generates in the deep dark biome, specifically on the edges of Sculk patches.
It generates a layer on top of blocks, similar to snow.
Sculk Vein blocks can be placed in all directions, resembling the behavior of glow lichen.
They have an animated texture and do not drop anything when broken without Silk Touch.
Some parts of Sculk Vein blocks are transparent, allowing players to see the block beneath them.
Additionally, Sculk Vein blocks can be waterlogged.
The Bucket of Tadpole is a newly added item that can be obtained by capturing a tadpole using a water bucket.
Disc Fragment 5 is a fragment of the Music Disc "5".
It can be crafted into the complete disc.
These fragments can only be found in chests within ancient cities.
They are extremely rare and challenging to obtain.
Echo Shards can be found exclusively in loot chests within ancient cities.
They have the ability to craft recovery compasses.
These shards serve a specific purpose and can be valuable for players exploring ancient cities.
Goat Horns are dropped when a goat rams into coal ore, emerald ore, iron ore, logs, packed ice, or stone.
They can be used to produce a loud sound that can be heard from a distance.
There are eight variants of Goat Horns, each with a unique sound.
Variants such as "Ponder," "Sing," "Seek," and "Feel" can be obtained from regular goats' ramming or chests in pillager outposts with a 100% chance.
Variants such as "Admire," "Call," "Yearn," and "Resist" can only be obtained from screaming goats' ramming.
The specific variant of the horn dropped by a goat is random.
The Mangrove Boat is a new type of boat crafted using mangrove planks.
It offers players an alternative option for water transportation in Minecraft.
Music Disc 5 is a new music disc composed by Samuel Åberg.
It is titled "5" and can be obtained by restoring it from a fragmented state.
The disc can only be crafted by combining nine Disc Fragment 5 items.
The track on this disc shares similarities with the existing track "11."
The Recovery Compass is a unique type of compass that points to the last location where the player died.
It will randomly spin if it is not held by a player, if the player hasn't died, or if the player is not in the same dimension as the death point.
The compass can be crafted using a regular compass surrounded by eight echo shards.
The Allay Spawn Egg is an item used to spawn Allays.
The Frog Spawn Egg is an item used to spawn Frogs.
The Tadpole Spawn Egg is an item used to spawn Tadpoles.
The Warden Spawn Egg is an item used to spawn Wardens.
These spawn eggs provide players with the ability to introduce these specific mobs into their Minecraft worlds.
The Allay is a mob that was voted to be added during Minecraft Live 2021.
It has the ability to find dropped blocks or items for players and collects the same items it holds in its hand from the world.
Allays can pick up dropped items in loaded chunks and carry up to a stack of items.
They cannot duplicate items or take items from chests.
When an Allay is within range of a note block, it drops its collected items at the note block instead of the player.
If an Allay is holding an item obtained from a player, it will follow that player.
Players can make an Allay hold an item by interacting with it, and the item can be removed by interacting with the Allay while holding an empty hand.
Allays spawn in cages next to pillager outposts and inside woodland mansions.
They have 20 health points (hearts) and natural health regeneration of 2 hearts per second.
Allays are immune to damage from their owner while holding an item.
Frogs come in three variants: temperate, warm, and cold.
The temperate variant is orange, the warm variant is white, and the cold variant is green.
Frogs can croak, jump, swim, and slowly walk on land.
They can jump over 5 blocks and are faster in water than on land.
Frogs prefer to jump onto lily pads and big dripleaf blocks.
They have a base attack strength of 10 and can target specific mobs as food.
When they defeat small slimes, they drop slime balls, and when they defeat small magma cubes, they drop froglights.
Frogs can be tempted and bred using slime balls.
They lay eggs on water after mating.
Frogs have 10 health points (hearts).
Tadpoles grow into frogs 20 minutes after birth, and this process can be accelerated using slime balls.
The type of frog a tadpole grows into depends on the temperature of the biome where it undergoes metamorphosis.
Tadpoles can be held in a water bucket.
They jump around like fish when on land and eventually die.
Tadpoles panic on land and try to pathfind to the nearest water source.
They are hunted by axolotls and also panic when axolotls are nearby.
Tadpoles have 6 health points (hearts).
Blindness: The Warden is the first fully blind mob in the game. Unlike bats, which have basic eyesight, the Warden relies on other senses.
Sense of Smell: The Warden has a sense of smell and can detect and pathfind towards the general location of a player or mob through its smelling action. It prioritizes the player or mob it is most suspicious of rather than the closest one.
Sense of Vibration: The Warden can sense movement and will pathfind towards the source of the movement. It follows and attacks players, mobs, and entities that create vibrations.
Reaction to Vibrations: When the Warden detects vibrations, the growths on its head rattle and light up, similar to the behavior of the sculk sensor.
Projectile Distractions: If any projectile, such as an egg, snowball, or arrow, lands near the Warden, it inspects the location where the projectile landed due to the significant vibrations it creates. This can be used as a distraction.
Sneaking and Invisibility: The Warden does not detect players that are sneaking but can detect players or mobs with the Invisibility effect.
Suspicion and Aggression: The Warden becomes more suspicious of a player or mob as it detects their location through vibrations or smell. When it suspects the target enough, it identifies their exact location and pathfinds towards them to attack, regardless of outside distractions.
Spawning and Behavior: The Warden spawns in the deep dark biome when a player activates sculk shriekers four times. It "emerges" from the ground when spawned and digs back into the ground if it doesn't sense any vibrations for 60 seconds. Name tags can prevent it from burrowing back into the ground.
Difficulty and Stats: The Warden is designed to be an extremely challenging mob and is intended to be avoided and fled from. It has 500 health points (hearts) and deals high damage. It can disable shields and is as fast as a walking player. It has a glowing core in its chest that brightens and dims with the Darkness effect, creating a pulsating sound as it becomes more suspicious or closer to attacking.
Size and Reach: The Warden is approximately 3.5 blocks tall, making it one of the tallest mobs in the game. It has a long melee reach and can hit players even when they are on top of a four-block pillar, countering certain tactics like pillaring.
Ranged Attack: The Warden can charge a ranged attack when the player is building high, hiding behind walls, or out of its melee attack range. It opens its rib cages to unleash a sonically charged ranged attack that can penetrate walls, bypass shields, and armor. The attack deals significant damage and can hit targets at a horizontal distance of 15 blocks, but only one target at a time.
Immunities: The Warden is immune to lava and knockback.
Drops: When defeated, the Warden drops a sculk catalyst.
The Boat with Chest is a non-mob entity introduced during Minecraft Live 2021. It has the following features:
Functionality: The Boat with Chest is similar to a Minecart with Chest but with a boat instead of a minecart. This allows players to travel on water while also carrying items in the boat's chest.
Capacity: The Boat with Chest can hold only one entity, which can be a player or another mob.
Crafting: To craft a Boat with Chest, you need to combine a chest with any type of boat. This can be done on a crafting table or the player's inventory.
Wood Plank Variants: The Boat with Chest comes in different wood plank variants, including dark oak, jungle, and the newly added mangrove wood plank variant. This allows players to choose the aesthetic that matches their preferences or the biome they are in.
Angry Piglins: Opening the inventory of a Boat with Chest makes nearby adult piglins angry. It's important to be cautious when accessing the boat's inventory in the Nether or near adult piglins to avoid confrontation.
Breaking and Drops: If the Boat with Chest is broken, either by the player or through other means, it drops itself as an item along with all the items stored in its chest. This allows players to recover both the boat and its contents if needed.
The Ancient City is a newly introduced structure that generates exclusively within the deep dark biome. It incorporates all the distinct features of the deep dark biome and is notable for its immense size. The city always generates at the specific Y-coordinate of -52. It is constructed primarily using deep slate and its variants, along with basalt and its variants, and gray wool.
Within the Ancient City, you will find various elements associated with the deep dark biome, such as soul sand, soul fire, and soul lanterns. Additionally, the city is adorned with candles and skeleton skulls, adding to its mysterious ambiance. One intriguing feature of the city is the presence of frames made of reinforced deepslate, adding a sense of intrigue and curiosity.
Exploring the Ancient City can yield valuable loot. Chests scattered throughout the city contain unique items such as echo shards, disc fragments, and the highly sought-after Swift Sneak enchantment. Other valuable loot includes rare items like the "other side" music disc, Potions of Regeneration II, enchanted books, enchanted iron and diamond leggings, enchanted diamond hoes, and enchanted golden apples.
The Ancient City is a multi-level structure with various open spaces and ruins. Different types of ruins and wall structures can be found within the city. Some of these structures incorporate dark oak logs, planks, and fences, as well as cyan, light blue, and blue wool and carpets. Ladders, ice and its variants, note blocks, stone pressure plates, and iron trapdoors operated by levers are also present, contributing to the city's diverse architecture.
Beneath the reinforced deeps-late frames, hidden rooms can be discovered. These rooms contain intricate redstone mechanisms designed to introduce new players to their functionality. Each variant of the city center features a different redstone puzzle that conceals the entrance. Solving these puzzles requires employing different strategies and understanding the mechanics of the mechanisms. The redstone contraptions consist of various components such as redstone dust, redstone torches, redstone repeaters, redstone comparators, redstone lamps, blocks of redstone, sticky pistons, a sculk sensor, a target, and a lectern. Some variants of the city center incorporate a lever or a furnace containing specific items, adding to the complexity of the puzzles.
The Deep Dark is a newly introduced biome that represents the deepest depths of the Minecraft world. It tends to generate beneath continental or mountainous areas, exclusively within the deepslate layer ranging from Y-coordinate -1 to -64. The Deep Dark biome is home to the Ancient City, which can be found within its depths. Furthermore, the activation of sculk shriekers can cause the spawning of the formidable Wardens within this biome.
The surface of the Deep Dark biome features patches of blocks related to sculks, providing an eerie and unique appearance. In terms of mob spawns, apart from spawners, only Wardens can be found in this biome. Similar to mushroom fields, other hostile or passive mobs do not naturally spawn here.
The Mangrove Swamp is a newly introduced swamp biome characterized by its teal-colored water. It often generates in warmer clusters, typically adjacent to jungles and deserts. Mangrove trees, a distinct type of tree variant, are the exclusive trees found within this biome, distinguishing it from regular swamps that can also generate oak trees.
The Mangrove Swamp is inhabited by warm frogs and slimes, while sheep, cows, pigs, and chickens are absent from this biome. Witch huts do not generate within the Mangrove Swamp. The floor of the biome is covered by a layer of mud that extends from the surface all the way down to the stone layer. Additionally, tropical fish have the opportunity to spawn in the water, adding to the biome's unique ecosystem. The water fog color in the Mangrove Swamp appears as a pale green hue, differentiating it from the yellow water fog in normal swamps.
Mangrove trees are a newly introduced tree variant found exclusively in Mangrove Swamp biomes. These trees possess a distinctive and recognizable shape, featuring a complex root system known as mangrove roots that leads up to a forked trunk and mangrove leaves.
The trunk and branches of the Mangrove Tree are composed of mangrove logs, while the roots are generated using mangrove root blocks. Additionally, propagules, which are small structures hanging from the leaves, can be observed on the tree. Moss carpet may generate on top of some of the exposed roots, adding a touch of natural beauty to the biome.
Mangrove Trees have a unique growth pattern, originating from mangrove propagules. Furthermore, there is a chance for a bee nest to be generated within the Mangrove Tree, providing an opportunity for players to interact with bees and obtain honey-related resources.
With the introduction of wardens' ranged attack, new death messages have been added to reflect this. When a player is defeated by the wardens' sonically-charged shriek, the death message will now read "<player> was obliterated by a sonically-charged shriek." This adds an extra level of intensity and immersion to the gameplay experience.
A new enchantment called Swift Sneak has been introduced to the game. This enchantment is unique and can only be found in chests located within ancient cities. It cannot be obtained through fishing, regular enchanting, or other loot chests, similar to the Soul Speed enchantment.
Swift Sneak has three levels of enchantment and is exclusive to leggings. When applied to leggings, it allows the player to move faster while sneaking. The speed increase scales up to 75% of the normal walking speed at level III. This enchantment provides players with enhanced mobility and agility while maintaining a sneaking stance.
The sculk shrieker, a new feature in the game, triggers a status effect called Darkness. When affected by Darkness, the player's camera experiences a dimming effect, resulting in reduced brightness and limited visibility. The gamma level of the player's screen is lowered equivalent to the "Moody" setting, intensifying the atmospheric challenge and requiring players to rely on other senses and light sources to navigate effectively.
New music tracks have been added to the game, all composed by Lena Raine. The track titled "Ancestry" plays exclusively in the deep dark biome, creating a unique atmosphere and enhancing the player's immersion in this mysterious environment. Additionally, three new tracks, namely "Aerie," "Firebugs," and "Labyrinthine," can be heard in lush caves, various types of swamps, forests, jungles, and even on the menu screen. These tracks contribute to the overall ambiance of these biomes and provide a captivating musical experience for players.
An additional accessibility slider called "Darkness Effect Strength" has been included in the options menu. This slider allows players to adjust the intensity of the Darkness effect, which is triggered when a Warden or Sculk Shrieker affects the player. By modifying this setting, players can customize how dark the game appears during these encounters, providing greater flexibility to accommodate individual preferences and needs.
Several new particle effects have been introduced to enhance visual feedback within the game. These include the Sculk Soul particle (minecraft:sculk_soul_particle) and the Sculk Catalyst Bloom, emitted when sculk catalysts are activated by sculk sensors. Additionally, the Shriek particle (minecraft:shriek_particle), Sculk Shriek particles emitted by sculk shriekers when activated, and particles associated with sculk sensors, such as the sculk_charge_pop_particle, sculk_charge_particle, and sculk_sensor_redstone_particle, have been added. These particles add visual depth and immersion to interactions with sculk-related elements.
New splash text messages have been included in the game. These short phrases add a touch of humor and variety to the loading screen. Some examples of the added splash text include "Shriek like a Sculk Shrieker!", "Who let the frogs out?", "RIBBIT!", "Croak team!", "Nooooooooooooo!", "Flower forest TM perfume," and "Hat Fridays!" These creative messages offer players a lighthearted and entertaining experience while waiting for the game to load.
