Piglin Brutes are a stronger hostile version of piglins that appear in bastion remnants. They were added in update 1.16.2 of the Minecraft Java Edition and they will always attack the player on sight without being willing to barter or retreat, or be distracted by gold.
Piglin brutes only spawn upon generation in bastion remnants. They do not have a baby form and they spawn with a golden ax, with a chance of spawning with an enchanted ax. Piglin brutes do not spawn with armor and cannot pick up armor from the ground, though they may equip it with dispensers or commands.
Piglin brutes will attack all players, wither skeletons, and withers within 16 blocks. Piglin brutes will also attack any mob (with the exception of goats) that attacks any piglin or piglin brute, either by accident or purposefully. Piglin brutes deal high amounts of raw melee damage, inflicting a total of 19 damage on hard difficulty.
Piglin brutes spawn in all difficulty settings, though in peaceful mode they will despawn in the Java Edition and will become passive in the Bedrock Edition. Like piglins, piglin brutes can: open wooden doors, call nearby piglins and other piglin brutes once attacked by a mob or a player, regardless of whether the player wears golden armor or not, join in hunts (only in Bedrock Edition), turn into a zombified piglin when in the overworld or the end for more than 15 seconds, and attack withers and wither skeletons. Also like piglins, they are not immune to fire.
Unlike piglins, piglin brutes: attack players on site, do not retreat from soul fire items, zoglins, or zombified piglins, do not perform a “victory dance”, are not alerted by opening/mining of containers or the breaking of gold-type blocks, or if the player doesn't wear gold armor, do not follow players if they are holding gold, do not barter, they pick up regular or enchanted golden axes only if walking over them, they cannot ride hoglins, they cannot use crossbows, and they attempt to return to their spawn point when not engaged in combat.
Piglin brutes inflict a total of 19 damage on hard difficulty and their heavy hits mean that a full set of unenchanted iron armor only reduces the attack damage by 22%. Piglin brutes do not respawn once killed.
What do Piglin Brutes Drop?
A piglin brute has an 8.5% chance of dropping a golden ax with random durability if killed by either a player or a tamed wolf. The odds of this are increased by 1% with each level of Looting a player has on their weapon, with a total 11.5% chance with Looting III. When killed by either a player or a tamed wolf, a piglin brute will drop 20 experience points.
