A taiga is a cold biome in the Overworld, which is characterized by forests made of spruce and fern trees. A snowy biome is a biome similar to the taiga with its forests and characteristics.
Snowy taigas are similar to their snow-free variants, with a large number of spruce trees, rabbits, foxes and wolves. The snow covered trees and ground are the main distinction. The temperature is cold enough to freeze water but the lakes found here are partially shrouded with trees and their leaves, so these lakes may not be frozen. Dandelions and poppies can also still be found here. Structures found here are villages and pillager outposts. Villages have snow covered huts and villagers are seen wearing snowy plains outfits. The water in village farms is frozen, leading to the crops uprooting. Igloos can also be found here.
The passive mobs include sheep, pigs, cows and chicken. Wolves, foxes and rabbits spawn in taigas, though rabbits are not often seen due to wolves chasing them and killing them. The spawned foxes are white-coated and 80% of rabbits found have white coats too. The mobs include spiders, endermen, witches, slime (only in slime chunks), skeletons and jockeys. Bats can be found in cave-like structures found here.
Snowy Taigas are one of the most preferred biomes to start out in survival mode. The abundance of wood, grassy terrain and useful passive mobs make this biome easy for players. Snowy taigas share the same dangers of forests, however; a player can get lost within the trees easily if they don't mark their trails and the foliage can lead to obstructed vision, especially at night.
A. Snowy taiga can commonly be located beside "extreme hills" biomes and forest biomes.
A. When compared to the snowless variant, snowy taigas are considered rare.
