If you’ve grown weary of throwing your trident to have to retrieve the thrown item all the time then you're in great luck. The enchantment loyalty is the perfect answer to this conundrum and will be shown in spades should you ever find yourself in a pinch through combat. In this article we shall go over what makes loyalty such a useful enchantment, and what it best goes with, and how one should best use it.
Loyalty is an enchantment that allows a thrown weapon to return to you. The only weapon that can receive this enchantment is the trident.
This can be especially helpful for those who don’t want to lose the only trident that they may have and don’t want to go through the trouble of retrieving it, every time that it hits the ground. Considering how rare and time-consuming it can be to even acquire a trident, loyalty makes it all the more convenient for you to keep what you have earned while at the same time making ranged combat more convenient without having to worry about ammunition.
The speed of how quickly the trident returns to you depends a great deal on the level of your enchantment, so take care to level yourself up a bit before use.
Before you can even think of enchanting your trident with loyalty you are going to need a set of materials to be able to accomplish this. Here is the short-list below.
Lapis lazuli thankfully shouldn’t be too hard to find if you go mining deep enough. It tends to spawn in groups so getting enough of it also shouldn’t be too great an issue. Getting the material for your enchanting table will be more time-consuming, but not impossible. Once you have collected all of the materials you need, it is best that you remember that you need to be level 8 to input the first level of this enchantment otherwise you will be wasting your own time.
If you have all of the prerequisites, go to your enchanting table, put the trident and lazuli in their corresponding slots and you should be able to enchant the loyalty with no problem.
Riptide is only better than loyalty if you are either fighting in the rain or in a large body of water since that is the only time it is actually usable. It all depends on your situation.
It is worth noting that riptide can be used in place of rockets when flying with Elytra. However, this effect will only work in the rain or snow.
A. Loyalty is a very good enchantment, especially considering how rare tridents are and how difficult it can be to replace them on a consistent basis. If you are going through an underwater temple, it can be a good ranged option.
A. It will come back. Amazingly tridents are one of the few items that can withstand the heat of the lava.
A. Speed. The higher level of loyalty that you have the faster your trident will return to you.
