On September 3, 2010, Cassell launched his “TheSyndicateProject” (later known as “Syndicate”) YouTube channel. The channel was founded initially on let’s play videos for Modern Warfare 2 and Halo, but it gained popularity after the introduction of the Call of Duty: Black Ops “zombies” mode. Then he developed even more by publishing a number of let’s play Minecraft series, most notably “The Minecraft Project”.

On September 24, 2011, Cassell launched his second YouTube channel, which he later renamed from “SyndicateCentral” to “Life of Tom”. The channel is devoted to vlogs that document his life’s experiences, including his travels around the globe. He manages a Twitch channel, one of the most popular ones on the platform as of July 2021, with over 3 million subscribers.

Additionally, he was one of the three owners of the MultiCube.net Minecraft network, which had a total user base of more than 1,254,000 before being shut down in early 2015 due to a lack of financial viability.

In collaboration with the media company 3BlackDot, Cassell and fellow YouTuber Adam Montoya (also known online as SeaNanners) launched the multi-channel network Jetpak in November 2014 with the goal of achieving a more equitable revenue-sharing structure.

Thomas George Cassell was born in Manchester, England, on 23 June 1993. He was educated at The Blue Coat School in nearby Oldham and later Hyde Clarendon Sixth Form College in Ashton-under-Lyne, where he sat his A-levels. After leaving, he briefly worked at McDonald's.

Cassell has been residing in his father-built home in England for some time. He no longer alternates between the US and England every month; instead, he only resides in England, travels extensively, and visits the US frequently. Cassell also owns a bearded dragon lizard by the name of Steve. Cassell previously owned a bearded dragon named Spike before Steeve.

He had a girlfriend named Kaitlin Witcher, also known as Piddleass on YouTube, whom he met through Minecraft after destroying her home on a server. After their relationship deteriorated, Tom and Kate split up. He dated another girl named Jess Hollingworth before breaking up in early 2016. Later, he began dating Lydia Hewitt-Lee, a longtime friend and teacher from Dukinfield. Despite their separation, Tom and Lydia remain close friends.

Fellow streamers Natalie Casanova and Kaitlin Witcher accused Cassell of sexual assault in June 2020; Cassell called the accusations "false" and a "character assassination" He added that the actions by "two women [he] once called friends" had left him "shocked and saddened".

Q. What was the issue between Syndicate and Xbox?

A. As part of a promotional campaign run by Microsoft's advertising agency and run by Machinima, Inc. in late 2013, Cassell received $30,000 along with other YouTubers to promote the company's recently released Xbox One console. The endorsement violated Federal Trade Commission (FTC) rules because it was not disclosed that the individuals were compensated by Microsoft to support the game.

Q. Why was Syndicate involved in a lawsuit?

A. In July 2016, Cassell promoted the gambling website CSGOLotto.com without disclosing a conflict of interest as a vice-president of the business, again in violation of FTC rules. As a result, Cassell received harsh criticism and was named as a defendant in a class-action lawsuit.
