Animated content on YouTube is not something that is relatively new, it has existed for a long period of time but only saw an unprecedented boom in recent years. Popular channels like Jaiden Animations, Tabbes, Illymation, and TheOdd1sOut, have all gained massive viewership and followers in what seems to be a case of overnight success.
Though the concept of virality and success stories are ubiquitous with YouTube and other popular social media apps, what sets animation channels and animation content creators apart is the fact YouTube’s algorithm was not set up to favour and promote the type of videos these content creators and channels produce. For other content creators like vloggers and gaming channels, it is quite easy to churn out content on a daily basis but for an animator it’s tough to compete with that frequency as animation is an arduous task. Successful animators use animations as an outlet for the purpose of story telling and for expressing their narratives.
