Chicken Jockey

Chicken jockeys are rare occurrences where a baby zombie, baby husk, baby zombified piglin, baby zombie villager or baby drowned can be seen riding a chicken. Whenever a zombie or any of its variants spawn the chances for a chicken jockey to spawn are 1%.

How does a chicken jockey behave?

The chicken jockey will run around behaving like a zombie instead of using the chicken AI. They are as fast as baby zombies and they even fall slowly from a height so as to not take any fall damage just like chickens. All the variants except the one with a zombified piglin (they will become hostile if attacked) are hostile mobs. If the rider is killed the chickens will become passive.

How do chicken jockeys spawn?

Java Edition

When a baby zombie, baby zombie villager, baby zombified piglin, baby husk, or baby drowned spawns they have a chance of 5% to check for a chicken within a 10x6x10 block radius with the center being their spawn point. If they are unable to find an existing chicken, then there is an additional 5% chance of the baby zombie spawning mounted on a new chicken.

In an environment, each baby zombie has a 0.25% chance of becoming a chicken jokey. Sometimes a chicken jockey may spawn with some equipped items. Baby zombified piglin variation of the chicken jockey will always spawn with a golden sword, whereas the drowned variant may have a trident.

Bedrock Edition

Unlike Java Edition you will encounter more chicken jockeys as they have a 15% chance of becoming one upon attacking a player, villagers, or iron golem. Baby zombies, baby husks, and baby zombified villagers can ride the following mobs :

  1. Adult Ocelots and wild cats
  2. Adult wild wolves
  3. Adult Chickens
  4. Cows
  5. Pigs
  6. Sheep
  7. Spiders
  8. Cave Spiders
  9. Pandas
  10. Horses and their variants

If a rideable or tameable mob has been mounted on by a baby zombie they become unrideable and untamable.

FAQ.

Q. Can you breed a chicken jockey?

A. Yes, but you will need to kill the baby zombie and then you can breed them as normal chickens.

Q. How rare are chicken jockeys?

A. Chicken jockeys are one of the rarest hostile mobs in the game.

Q. What is the rarest jockey?

A. The rarest jockey is a mooshroom jockey

Conclusion

Chicken jockeys can prove to be an annoying and dangerous enemy mob to encounter. Their small hitbox and quick movement speed make long-range combat with bow and arrows ineffective. They are a mob that will keep you on your toes and tests you whenever you encounter one.
