Coal is a mineral resource that can be obtained from mining coal ore and it is mostly used for fueling furnaces, making torches, and campfires. Coal ore can be easily found underground in mountain biomes, and caves. A lump of coal can be obtained by breaking coal ore with any type of pickaxe. You can also find coal in loot chests in dungeons, igloos, strongholds, mineshafts, etc.

When a coal ore block is broken with a pickaxe it will drop 1 coal, but this number can be increased up to 4 with the fortune enchantment.
