Fire Protection reduces all ongoing fire damage and in Bedrock Edition, as long as the Fire Protection total adds up to 7 or higher, a player cannot catch on fire, although damage is still taken when standing directly on fire. In Java Edition, Fire Protection will reduce burn time by (15 x level of Fire Protection)% if multiple pieces have the enchantment and only the highest level's burn time reduction is used. Fire Protection is especially useful in the Nether, since mobs and the environment in the Nether can often lead to the player being set on fire.
To enchant your armor with Fire Protection the player will need either an enchanting table or anvil, alongside experience, which you can get from breaking certain blocks and fighting mobs.
Enchanting tables will give a random list of enchantments that can be applied to the armor with the strength of the enchantments being increased by placing bookshelves around the enchantment table. The other option is to find an enchanted book with Fire Protection on it and use an anvil to place the enchantment on the desired equipment.
Fire Protection is one of the most useful enchantments for exploring the Nether. By refreshing the enchantment table list, you can increase your odds of obtaining Fire Protection and prepare for exploring the Nether.
