To make a Jack-O-Lantern, place one carved pumpkin in the crafting GUI, preferably in the center of the 3x3 grid, with a torch stick underneath. Once you complete making a Jack-O-Lantern, move it to your inventory.
Jack-o'-lantern is a sturdy carved pumpkin block that had been updated for Halloween special in Minecraft. In the real world, a jack o'lantern is a festive carved pumpkin lantern that is most connected with the Halloween season. Meanwhile, its usage in Minecraft differs quite a bit from the real world.
First and foremost, they fulfil their purpose as a light source exceptionally similar to a torch. The main difference is that the torch as their light radius is relatively larger, as well as being able to function underwater. Another added benefit was that Jack o Lanterns can keep Hostile Mobs away.

In Minecraft, a pumpkin is an item that you cannot make with a crafting table or furnace. Instead, you need to find and gather this item in the game. First, you need to find a pumpkin plant growing in your Minecraft world usually found in the Extreme Hills or Plains biomes. Once you have found a pumpkin plant, you will need to dig up the pumpkin. Make sure you pick up the pumpkin before it disappears.
Now that you have a pumpkin. Craft shears using the following recipe, which requires only two iron ingots:
You have the shears and the pumpkin. We can finally finish crafting one of the building blocks of Jack o’lantern. Place the pumpkin near you on the ground. Equip the shears using the hotbar. Use the shears on the pumpkin by simply left-clicking on it while having the shears equipped. You will have marks, like the picture below, on the pumpkin indicating that it has been carved successfully.
All that’s left is digging up the carved pumpkin and storing it in your inventory.
To make a torch, place 1 coal/charcoal and 1 stick in the 3x3 crafting grid.

Open your crafting table to begin crafting the Jack o’lantern with the obtained ingredients contained in your inventory. Once you open your crafting table you will have the 3x3 crafting grid similar to the picture below:

Place the carved pumpkin block from your inventory to the second cell in the first row:

Jack o'lantern can have light when they are immersed underwater and have a luminance of 15. They can also be used to create snow golems and iron golems.
