Early Life and Career

(Source: Instagram)

Roi was born in Dagupan City in the province of Pangasinan in the Philippines. When he was 2 years old, he and his family moved to Durham, North Carolina. He has three younger siblings - Reymound, Russell, and Ariel.

He joined YouTube in July 2006 and began creating videos with his friend Alex Burriss, known as Alex Wassabi. The pair became famous, and in 2008 formed their own venture called Wassabi Productions. He went to Durham Tech Community College to study nursing but then left. He subsequently joined North Carolina State University in a Computer Engineering course only to drop out to focus on his YouTube career.

During his tenure in Wassabi Productions, Alex and Roi played various characters, and did comedic acts, vlogs, challenges, as well as parodies, playing these characters. Their big breakthrough, however, was a parody of Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”.

He then went on to create his solo channel, as well as his second channel, both of which initially featured similar content to what he did at Wassabi Productions, but he later realized that he wanted to do something different. As a result, he left Wassabi Productions in 2016.

His main solo channel “Guava Juice” took off in 2015 and grew because of his outlandish and downright illogical challenge videos and comedic videos.
