System of a Down (also known as SoaD or simply System), an Armenian-American band, successfully pushed their socially and politically conscious messages into the mosh pits during the nu-metal boom of the turn of the century by striking a balance between '80s underground thrash metal and metallic early '90s alternative rock. As of October 2022, all the band members of the band are worth $20 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. The band members earn from the sale of CDs, merchandise, concert tickets and various brand deals.
With their breakthrough single Toxicity, which debuted at number one in 2001 and established them at the top of the charts throughout the early 2000s with a pair of related albums, Mezmerize and Hypnotize, they went from having a cult following to a full-blown movement thanks to their dark and wild style.
Soon after, the band went on an extended sabbatical, splitting off into different solo endeavors while continuing to perform occasionally and raise awareness of the Armenian genocide.
They wouldn't perform again until 2020, when they released "Protect the Land'' b/w "Genocidal Humanoidz," their first new music in 15 years. The album's revenues were used to help families who had been displaced by the Nagorno-Karabakh war that year.
Midway through the 1990s, System of a Down was founded in Southern California by vocalist Shavo Odadjian, guitarist John Dolmayan, bassist Shavo Odadjian, and drummer John Dolmayan. They rapidly acquired a sizable fan base in Los Angeles, mostly because of positive word of mouth. Their fan base quickly expanded outside of America, to include Europe and New Zealand, thanks to a three-song demo that started making the rounds among metal collectors.
The quartet continued to advocate for Armenian causes as they intermittently traveled throughout the 2010s. The 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war was one of those, and it led to System's reunion for the charity song "Protect the Land'' b/w "Genocidal Humanoidz," which helped generate more than $500,000 for families who had been forced to flee the fighting.

SoaD is very erratic when it comes to posting on YouTube. Their primary sources of income include live concert bookings, endorsements and merchandise sales. SoaD is a pretty archaic band and their record sales also make a major contribution in the fortune they have built today. To give a peek into how old they were: SoaD began producing 4 years prior to the Slim Shady EP which was released in 1997. They released their first album “Untitled 1995 Demo” in 1995.
They have over 6.32 million subscribers and around 4.5 billion total video views. They have an average of 46 million views on their channel for the past 30 days. As per SocialBlade, they can earn anywhere between $11.7K - $187.5K and $140.7K - $2.3M monthly and yearly respectively. These are just their ad sense estimated figures, they earn a lot more through Spotify, Apple Music and record sales.
They have over 6 million followers and 90k average likes on their Instagram account with 500 average comments. As per SocialBlade, the engagement rate on their account is at 3.04% with 502 uploads. Thus, they can earn anywhere between $5,949 - $9,915 per sponsored post. Their account is filled with their live concert and tour photos, and tour reels.
System Of A Down has been touring a lot after their hiatus ended. SoaD and Code Orange performed at Hallenstadion, Zurich on June 1st, 2017, with a max capacity of around 14,000. Their gross sales were around $1.127 million and ticket prices ranged between $84.86 - $95.14.
They also make money through merchandise sales. Being a very well-recognized band, their merch does sell like hot cakes. Items are priced between $10-$100.
Not much is known regarding where they spend all of their money as they have not revealed any such information yet. One thing about them worth mentioning here is that a lot of their earnings after their hiatus of 15 years generally goes to charities or exhibition acts only.
A. The band split due to creative differences.
A. It's known that all the members of System of a Down are of Armenian descent. The band's name is closely related to Armenian history and a poem titled “Victims of a Down”.
A. Not likely, since System Of A Down guitarist Daron Malakian has said it is a “shame” that the band are unable to put aside their differences to make a new record.
