Erik Range, popularly known as Gronkh, is a German YouTube personality, computer games creator, computer and video game journalist, musician, and entrepreneur who was born on April 10, 1977.


Range previously offered games through the company PlayMassive GmbH, which operates a computer games website, but ceased operations on January 1, 2018. He is Germany's most popular Let's Play representative and the country's fourth most popular YouTuber.

Career


Range has routinely uploaded Let's Play videos in which he discusses his accomplishments in numerous games since 2010. On April 1 2010, he released his first video, a test recording for the online game Allods Online. He has since become one of the most prominent German-speaking providers of these formats.


“Let's Play: Allods Online #000 [German] [HD] - Erste Testaufnahme” is the oldest video on his channel. In the video, he plays Allods online.

Range quit the PlayMassive GmbH in 2018 and took the Gronkh trademark with him. He later went on to make Gods of Gaming GmbH. Some former PlayMassive GmbH employees followed him and are now employed by his new company.

On March 1, 2013, Range collaborated with other Let's Play YouTubers to produce live streams showcasing "Last Man Standing" videos, in which Range and his crew played computer games against PietSmiet's hard reset for almost eight hours. More than a million people have watched the live stream.


Range began streaming on the streaming site Twitch in 2014, and by 2019, he had over a million followers and over 71 million channel views. With it, he is rated 90th in the globe in terms of followers and 137th in terms of watchers on Twitch in 2019.


A 24-hour feed of Gronkh.de's Let's Play videos and other commentators was shown from mid-April 2014 through summer 2016. With almost 4.92 million followers as of March 3, 2018, Range is the fourth most subscribed YouTube channel in Germany.


Range is a co-founder and co-host of the live stream charity event Friendly Fire, which has been hosted annually before Christmas since 2015. The event has won numerous honours.

Erik Range was born in 1977 in Braunschweig to a German father and a Russian mother. He rose to prominence in the videogames business as the guide for the Bard characters in the online role-playing game Meridian 59. This was the first time he used the gamer tag "Gronkh", which he still uses today.


Range claims his alias is a portmanteau of the name "Gregor Onkh" Since 2009, he has served as the managing partner and co-founder of PlayMassive GmbH. Valentin Matthias Rahmel, also a co-founder of the company, goes by the online alias Sarazar. Rahmel works with Range on YouTube.
