Career

Following his graduation, Patrick moved to New York to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. However, his initial foray into theatre productions yielded little success, leading him to explore new avenues. This exploration culminated in the revamping of his YouTube channel as a "portfolio" to showcase his skills in writing, researching, and editing videos online. Inspired by an Extra Credits episode on tangential learning, he posted the first episode of "Game Theory" in 2011, marking the beginning of his journey towards becoming a successful content creator.

The Game Theorists channel, spearheaded by Mat, presented a unique blend of analytical and critical content, unravelling the mysteries and theories behind popular video games.

Patrick went on to create 3 more channels, The Film Theorists, The Food Theorists and the Style Theorists. Under the Film Theorists banner, Patrick explored the secrets and hidden meanings within the realm of movies and television shows. The Food Theorists channel delved into the world of food science, blending it with elements of psychology, physiology, and conspiracy. Launched in 2023, Style Theory catered to the science, maths, history, psychology, and mystery behind the world of fashion.

On January 9, 2024, MatPat announced in a video titled "Goodbye Internet" that he would be stepping away from hosting duties starting March 9, 2024. He revealed that different members of the Theorist Team would take on the hosting responsibilities for each channel, while he transitions into a creative role and makes occasional appearances on the channels.

Net Worth
