Watson registered his YouTube channel on September 14, 2006, under the name Ph1LzA. The channel was inactive for a month and a half until Phil uploaded the very first video on December 9, 2006. The video titled, Ph1LzA Montage 4 PREVIEW, earned over 173,069 views and featured the best clips from his live streams playing HALO back in the JustinTV era, the predecessor of Twitch.
Phil always intended to use his YouTube channel as an archive for the nuttiest plays and shots he ever made while playing popular gaming titles like HALO, Skate 3, and GTA IV, among many others. Phil uploaded over 44 videos of varying durations covering all these aforementioned gaming titles for the next six years before he uploaded his first ever Minecraft video.
He uploaded a 20-second video titled, Clever girl…, on February 7, 2012. The video featured Phil exploring the world of Minecraft before a creeper came and ended his run. This video earned over 42,497 views and even became a meme after Phil’s 5-year-run at a single Hardcore Minecraft game came to an end in an eerily similar fashion in the coming years.
On February 14, 2012, Phil started his now-fabled journey of playing Minecraft on hardcore difficulty. The video titled, Minecraft Hardcore Mode Ep.1 - #LFG!, earned over 366,785 views. At the time of this video being uploaded, Phil had no idea this journey would span over 118 episodes and roughly over a year. This iteration came to an unfortunate end when Phil’s hard drive crashed and he lost all his progress. However, Phil never technically died in this Minecraft world.
After his first hardcore series came to such an abrupt end, Phil stopped playing hardcore for a while, deciding to instead live stream and subsequently upload other Minecraft-related videos. During this time, Phil played Modtacular Minecraft, Minecraft: Kingdom of the Sky, GTA V, and a couple of HALO marathons for charity.
On April 1, 2014, Phil uploaded his first video to his Hardcore Series 2. The video titled, Minecraft Hardcore: Series 2 Ep.1 - STRANDED!?, earned over 840,832 views and became Phil’s most popular hardcore series at the time, which still stands true to this day. Despite this series lasting for over 5 years, it only has 56 videos.
This run came to an unfortunate end as Phil died to a spider after taking lethal damage from a gold-armored baby zombie which ended the series on June 14, 2018. However, Phil later uploaded a montage video on May 8, 2019, which featured all of the things he had built during this 5-year-long journey. This video went on to become one of the most popular videos on the Ph1LzA YouTube channel having earned over 30 million views.
Since his second installment in the Hardcore series, Phil has uploaded two more attempts at the same concept, a number of Let’s Plays of popular gaming titles like Five Night at Freddy’s, CS:GO, Mine(Z), Fall Guys, and Among Us. Phil has participated in over 16 Minecraft Championships, with three of them featuring on his YouTube channel.
