Underwater mining is frustrating, but Aqua Affinity can save you from a lot of frustration. Aqua Affinity will remove the penalty for mining underwater. Mining underwater usually takes five times as long for the item to be broken. Unfortunately, the penalty is only removed if the player is not floating, but having Aqua Affinity is a must if you plan on doing a lot of digging underwater.

This enchantment only has a maximum of one and is very easy to acquire on a helmet. It makes turtle shells even better as mining underwater coupled with the water breathing effect can make for a very useful armor piece if you are looking to extend the time you have underwater.

A conduit may provide water breathing indefinitely, as long as you are within its range, but the recipe is difficult to complete and requires defeating elder guardians in order to gather the prismarine. In the meantime, getting an Aqua Affinity enchantment can help you gather the materials for the conduit and give you the opportunity to mine underwater.

Aqua Affinity will only slot into helmets. Any type of helmet will work (Leather, Chainmail, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Netherite, and Turtle Shells). Since it is an armor-specific enchantment, it is easy to forget, but its benefits are great and there is no penalty to enchanting your armor.
