Career

Hikaru became interested in beatboxing as an elementary school student after seeing it on TV and taught himself beatboxing by watching YouTube beatbox videos. On December 30, 2006, he launched his first YouTube channel, HIKAKIN. He first used YouTube to view videos, but then he decided to post beatboxing, and thus his YouTube career began in 2007.

“ヒカキンゲーム実況第一弾!Potatoman Seeks The Troof!#1” or “The first Hikakin game commentary! Potatoman Seeks The Troof! #1” is the first video on Kaihatsu’s channel. This video has over 2.7 million as of August 2024. Kaihatsu plays the game Potatoman Seeks the Troof in the video.

He started off leaning towards the hip-hop side of beatboxing, but he realised that people would be more interested if he tried more popular music, so he adopted Super Mario BGM, AKB48 songs, and other popular tunes. As a result of this alteration, his video “Super Mario Beatbox” went viral in 2010, and it was even published on the front page of CBC News. As a result of that, he was approached about becoming a YouTube partner.

He chose to become a full-time YouTuber after seeing Michelle Phan’s lecture at the YouTube Partner Forum in Japan in 2011 and in 2012, he was able to become one.

His channel has steadily grown since its inception, and it reached 9 million subscribers on April 8, 2021. He established a new target of 10 million subscribers. When his HikakinTV channel celebrated its tenth anniversary, he declared that he would post ten films with additional effort from August 1 to August 20. There is an official playlist on his channel. Furthermore, he modified his intro animation to one in which he encourages himself to achieve the objective and celebrates HikakinTV’s tenth anniversary.

Tsubasa Honda, a popular actress, fashion model, YouTuber, and game creator, was invited to his home in the eighth video, which was posted on August 17. They played together, including a mobile game invented by Tsubasa.

The tenth film, which concluded the wave, was a music video for SEIKIn and his new song “FIRE”, which was posted on August 20.

On August 24, he said that he would begin a stream that would continue until he reached 10 million members, at which point he would be 50 thousand subscribers short of his target.

The promised feed began on September 10 but it lasted about 20 minutes because when he realised he needed to start the stream, the subscriber count was already climbing. He contributed his earnings from super chats in this stream to help avert medical collapse caused by COVID-19.

He co-founded the YouTuber firm UUUM with Kazuki Kamada in June 2013 and it is presently known as Japan’s largest YouTuber firm.
