Jax auditioned for American Idol in January 2015 with the classic Beatles song, "I Wanna Hold Your Hand". The judges loved her unique voice and said that nobody sounded like her. She was voted to go forward to Hollywood, by all the judges.

During Hollywood Week, Part 1, Jax first sang "Toxic" by Britney Spears. Many believed that this was her best performance by far. In Hollywood Week, Part 2, it was the round of Group Performances. Jax and her group, "Sal's Gals", were about to perform when contestant Alexis Granville collapsed due to an anxiety attack just before the performance. The next night, she had recovered from the incident and they could perform.

Jax sang The Beatles' "Let It Be" as a final solo performance. She was the only contestant out of 80 to be declared safe immediately after the performance.In April 2015, Jax became New Jersey's most successful American Idol contestant. In March of that year, she performed while wearing #TheDress at the Fillmore in Detroit, Michigan.She sang Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart" with Steven Tyler during the show's season finale.

Jax finished third in the competition, and her first single, "Forcefield", was released right after. In July 2015, Jax and the other top five American Idol contestants went on the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2015. The tour began in Clearwater, Florida, and ended on August 28, 2015, in Riverside, California. The top 3 each released singles, the top 4 each released EPs, American Idol Season 14: Best of Jax - EP, and the season 14 top 9, 8, 7, 6, and 5 each released a record.

Jax's first post-Idol recording, "La La Land", was released on January 6, 2016. Her first music video dropped later that same day, for "La La Land". The song talks about her experience with American Idol. In 2017 she released the EP "Funny" which charted at #17 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums.

In January 2021, she signed with Atlantic Records, and her song "Like My Father" debuted at #38 on the Billboard Adult Pop Airplay. It was her first song to chart on Billboard's charts, in October 2021.

Jax was born on May 5, 1996, in East Brunswick, New Jersey to John and Jill Miskanic. Jax had been singing since the age of 5 and, according to her parents, was quite the entertainer ever since she was little. Jax was self-taught in guitar and piano. Growing up she watched the show American Idol and dreamed of being on it, but mentioned that she never thought she would actually get there. She and Matt Miskanic, her younger brother, were homeschooled all of their lives. Jax mentions that Matt missed a lot of school because of American Idol.

On August 8, 2016, in an interview with NJ 101.5, she revealed that she was battling Hashimoto's disease, a condition where the body's immune system attacks the thyroid. Jax also revealed that she was suffering from thyroid cancer,but since then has been declared cancer-free. She also mentioned that she had her thyroid removed in April after finding that 12 of 18 tumors discovered on her thyroid were cancerous. The tumors were all removed successfully, and she has been undergoing iodine treatments.

On March 17, 2015, via Twitter, Jax revealed that she was dating former season 14 contestant Riley Bria, but in a post via Instagram posted on May 16, 2015, Riley confirmed that he and Jax had broken up.

In November 2021, Jax posted a dramatic TikTok reading of her ex-boyfriend's apology text messages after he cheated on her. In the background of the reading, sad violin music by Lindsey Stirling was being played. Jax and Stirling received hundreds of text messages from fans about how they related to it and several sent in actual messages from their respective others as well. They plan to turn these letters into a TikTok series.

She recently revealed on her Instagram that she is dating Braverijah Gregg on a post captioned “love of my life dump. Happy birthday. I don’t deserve you.”
