With the COVID 19 pandemic forcing comedy clubs and other venues to close down, TikTok became an unlikely savior for aspiring and professional comedians alike. As the platform provided the unique opportunity to connect with a global audience rather than a handful of people at a comedy club, it is growing towards becoming the future of comedy. TikTok’s core functionality works really well for comedians as they no longer have to work towards an hour-long special which they can use to gain a larger audience. In some sense, TikTok has essentially allowed a platform where anyone can get noticed if they are funny enough. The #comedy has a mind-boggling 1594 billion views which just goes to show this might as well be the future of comedy.
