Snow Golem was added to Minecraft back in beta patch 1.9. It was introduced as a utility mob. It attacks hostile mobs by chucking snowballs at them to knock them away. Despite their knack for launching projectiles at other mobs, they don’t do damage to mobs(except blaze).

Snow Golems are near impossible to spawn naturally. On very rare occasions where an enderman picks up a pumpkin and places it on top of snow blocks near or inside a village in the snow biome. Worry not because players can spawn in their own golems by placing a pumpkin or a Jack o Lantern on top of two snow blocks, the pumpkin/Jack o Lantern must be placed at last.

Snow Golems usually wander around without any objectives, but try to stay away from obstacles and dangers such as cacti, lava, fire, and so on. The golem wears the pumpkin as a helmet but it can be removed with the help of shears and its face is then revealed.
Snow golems “melt away” (take damage) in hot or dry biomes such as the badlands, deserts, and nether or if the temperature is above 1.0. They also melt when they come in contact with rain or water. Snow golem moves towards and engages with all monsters (except ghasts) up to 10 meters away and proceeds to throw snowballs at them, even if the monster hasn’t attacked the player. Additionally, Snow Golems will never intentionally attack players.
They throw one snowball a second which knocks back mobs but it doesn’t damage them except blazes and wolves. Iron golems and Snow Golems live in harmony and don’t provoke each other unless one of the snow golem’s snowballs accidentally hits the Iron Golem then it will attack the Snow Golem.

Snow Golems have been a nice and quite useful mob to have especially if you decide to live in the snow biome, as it alerts you about approaching monsters in case you are preoccupied with a task and lose track of time. A nice feature about them is having the ability to make creepers explode from far away as well. Snow Golems provide you with basically an alarm and a snow farm.
