His debut album X 100pre from 2018 was awarded a Latin Grammy for Best Urban Music Album. In 2020, Bad Bunny released his second solo studio album YHLQMDLG (Yo Hago Lo Que me da la Gana), which received a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.
Not only that, but he also released the surprise compilation album “Las Que no Iban a Salir”, and his third album El Último Tour Del Mundo, which was the first all-Spanish-language album to top the US Billboard 200 and also received a Grammy Award for Best Música Urbana Album.
Bad Bunny has a Billboard Global 200 number-one single with “Dakiti”. He performed at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show as a guest, alongside Shakira and Jennifer Lopez, and became the first Latin urban music artist on the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine.
Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world on their annual list in 2020. Bad Bunny also made guest appearances in the professional wrestling promotion WWE in 2021, where he won the WWE 24/7 Championship once and competed in and won a tag team match at its flagship event, WrestleMania 37.
Bad Bunny’s father, Tito Martínez or Martínez Ocasio, was a truck driver, and details about when he was born are currently unavailable. His father is from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. He did his best to make ends meet, but the Bad Bunny family still lived in poverty. They resided in a small house at Almirante Sur in Puerto Rico.
Ocasio, whom Benito calls, “Papi”, is a big music lover. He’d often listen to the radio and feels pleased when he hears the music of his talented eldest son. “He turns up the volume and listens to my music with an open heart”, Bad Bunny said in his interview. His father wanted him to be a baseball player but is more than happy to see his son reach the pinnacle of success in the music industry.
His mother, Lysaurie Ocasio, is a retired schoolteacher. His mother frequently listened to salsa, merengue, and ballads, such as Juan Gabriel's “Abrázame Muy Fuerte'' while Bad Bunny helped her with chores around the house. As a child, he attended church weekly with his devoutly Catholic mother and sang in the church choir until age 13. Alongside his academic education, she taught her son to become a devout person. He has stated that, when he was young, his mother wanted him to grow up to be an engineer. Like his father, Ocasio also is proud of the fact that her son has reached such great success over the years.
Bunny has two younger brothers, Bernie and Bysael, and he considers them to be like his close friends who are also part of his family. He says he was raised in a happy home. The rapper describes himself as a child by saying, “I wasn't the kid who got involved in the streets. I liked to be at home with my family.”
Bunny is on great terms with his younger brother Bernie, who is 26 years old currently. They both look alike, both being slim and lanky. Bernie works with his brother and helps him with tours and manages his work process. Bernie was born in 1997.
Bysael is the youngest boy in the family. He is 22, and he recently graduated from the Beltrán Baseball Academy. Bunny’s brother loves baseball and is pursuing a career in baseball. He dreams of becoming a professional player in the future. Bysael was born in 2001.
Bad Bunny's brothers aren’t following in their elder brother’s musical footsteps, even though his brother Bernie recently made a cameo in his music video for “Yo Visto Así”. Bysael is hard-set on pursuing a career in baseball, while Bernie manages his elder brother's affairs.
Bad Bunny says he chose his stage name because as a child, he was forced to wear a bunny costume to school. He found a photo of himself wearing the bunny suit, which directly inspired his name. Someone took a picture of the occasion and of the angry look on his face. When thinking of a stage name, the picture came to mind. Bunny also enjoys the bad boy image that comes with a name like Bad Bunny.
X 100PRE is an abbreviation for “Por Siempre” in Spanish. It means “forever”. Bad Bunny released X 100PRE on 24 December 2018. His debut album includes the hits ‘Estamos Bien’, ‘MIA (feat. Drake)’ and ‘Caro’.
Bad Bunny is a trans ally, and he uses his platform to shut down homophobia. During his performance of 'Ignorantes’ on Jimmy Fallon in February 2020, he wore a black skirt and a shirt that read “Mataron a Alexa, no a un hombre con flada.” This means: “They killed Alexa, not a man in a skirt.” Alexa Negrón Luciano was a Puerto Rican transgender woman, who was murdered shortly after photos of her being questioned by police for using a woman’s public bathroom circulated online.
