Bad Bunny’s father, Tito Martínez or Martínez Ocasio, was a truck driver, and details about when he was born are currently unavailable. His father is from Puerto Rico as well as his mother Lysaurie. He did his best to make ends meet, but the Bad Bunny family still lived in poverty. They resided in a small house at Almirante Sur in Puerto Rico.
Ocasio, whom Benito calls, “Papi”, is a big music lover. He’d often listen to the radio and feel really happy when he hears the music of his talented eldest son. “He turns up the volume and listens to my music with an open heart”, Bad Bunny said in his interview. His father wanted him to be a baseball player but is more than happy to see his son reach the pinnacle of success in the music industry.
His mother, Lysaurie Ocasio, is a retired schoolteacher. His mother often listened to salsa, merengue, and ballads, such as Juan Gabriel's "Abrázame Muy Fuerte'' while Bad Bunny helped her with chores around the house. As a child, he attended church weekly with his devoutly Catholic mother and sang in the church choir until age 13. Alongside his academic education, she taught her son to become a devout person. He has stated that, when he was young, his mother wanted him to grow up to be an engineer. Like his father, Ocasio also is proud of the fact that her son had reached such great success over the years.
Bunny has two younger brothers, Bernie and Bysael, and he considers them to be like his close friends who are also part of his family. He says he was raised in a happy home. The rapper describes himself as a child by saying, "I wasn't the kid who got involved in the streets. I liked to be at home with my family."

The rapper met jewelry designer Gabriela Berlingeri in 2017 at a restaurant while dining with his family, and the two began dating soon after. Berlingeri assisted Bad Bunny in recording the 2018 song "Te Guste" by providing scratch vocals for Jennifer Lopez's portions of the song. Bad Bunny kept his relationship with Berlingeri secret from the public until 2020. Berlingeri became the first Latina to shoot the cover of Rolling Stone when she photographed the rapper for the magazine's May 2020 cover. They are currently still together.
Bad Bunny says he chose his stage name because as a child, he was forced to wear a bunny costume to school. He found a photo of himself wearing the bunny suit, which directly inspired his name. Someone took a picture of the occasion and of the angry look on his face. When thinking of a stage name, the picture came to mind. Bunny also enjoys the bad boy image that comes with a name like Bad Bunny.

Bad Bunny is a trans ally and he uses his platform to shut down homophobia. During his performance of 'Ignorantes’ on Jimmy Fallon in February 2020, he wore a black skirt and a shirt that read “Mataron a Alexa, no a un hombre con flada.” This means: “They killed Alexa, not a man in a skirt.” Alexa Negrón Luciano was a Puerto Rican transgender woman, who was murdered shortly after photos of her being questioned by police for using a woman’s public bathroom circulated online.
