The Traveling Merchant is a non-traditional Terraria NPC who sells a variety of rare and unique items. The Traveling Merchant spawns between 4:30 AM and 12:00 PM and leaves around 6:00 PM. The Traveling Merchant allows players a chance to get unique items that players can’t get any other way.
Unlike other NPCs, the Traveling Merchant does not require a house to spawn. Instead, the Traveling Merchant will randomly visit the player's town once at least two other NPCs (not counting the Old Man and the Skeleton Merchant) are already present. He has a 22.12% chance of spawning each day between 4:30 AM and 12:00 PM, but he will not appear during Solar Eclipses, the Goblin Army, Frost Legion, Pirate Invasion, Martian Madness, or if the chat is open. Once he has spawned, he will follow one of the NPCs around until 6:00 PM, at which point he will leave once the NPC is off-screen.
The Traveling Merchant sells a randomized inventory each visit.
