Janesa Jaida Barrett (b. August 6, 2002), known professionally as Nessa Barrett, is an American internet personality, singer, and songwriter.

Barrett was born and brought up in Galloway Township, New Jersey. She said that she had been interested in the performing arts since she was very young. She cites artists like the Arctic Monkeys, Lana Del Rey, Melanie Martinez, and The Neighbourhood as her musical influences.

Barrett first became famous on TikTok in 2019 for her original music and covers. Later, in mid-2020, she released her debut single, “Pain” and since then, she has released EPs and singles. In 2020, she moved from New Jersey to Los Angeles, to focus on her music career. In August 2021, she made her debut on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart with her single “I Hope Ur Miserable Until Ur Dead’. The song charted at number #88 on the chart. The song has 16 million views on YouTube and over 139.4 million streams on Spotify.

Barrett has partnered with various brands such as VintageWaves/ Major Waves, and Novashine for brand deals and promotions. Nessa also launched her own line of merchandise in 2020.

Nessa was the subject of controversy when she posted a video on TikTok, dancing to what were Hadiths from the Quran. She faced criticism for the same, with many calling her Islamophobic. She later apologized and deleted the video, saying that it was not her intention to offend any person, citing that her stepmother is from Egypt.
