Zachary and Patrick Valentine, better known online as the Valentine brothers or Zach and Pat, are an American social media influencing and content creating duo best recognized for their viral dance, comedic, lifestyle, and inspiring video clip content on their TikTok account, “valentinebrothers”. The account has earned over 7 million fans. Zach often looks up to his older brother as a role model.
They are an infectiously gleeful brother duo that viewers will perpetually see on their “For You” recommendations page on TikTok. The two budding personalities are dedicated to sharing with others what it’s like to live with Down syndrome, which Zach, who just turned 20, was born with. The duo not only answers user-submitted questions about Down syndrome, but also provides a glimpse into their insightful friendship and daily activities with their family.
Zachary was diagnosed with Down syndrome at an early age and was adamant to make video content to educate the masses about his condition. His brother, Patrick Ramirez Valentine, has been his video and account collaborator. He and his brother share an amazing bond that can be seen in their videos. People recognize him for his viral dance videos and comedic content. His sweet and innocent nature also captures the hearts of thousands of his followers. He has posted many of his childhood pictures on his Instagram account, where he first posted on July 29, 2019. He posted his first TikTok video on October 2, 2019, and used the sound of E-40’s Choices (Yup). “Down Syndrome Awareness Month! ??” was the caption of the video.
Their most popular video has over 35 million views, and is captioned, “Behind the scenes! Are you ready for the results?”. Their second most popular video has 28 million views and is captioned “Cups of truth”. The duo has numerous other popular videos with 26 million, 18 million, 15 million, and 14 million views, captioned “Pizza test ?” “Inseparable ?”, “It’s a brother thing ?”, and “The results from the Behind the Scenes?” respectively. Zach has also shared a duet with fellow TikTok star Charli D’Amelio through their account in November 2019.
On YouTube, Zach created his channel Zachary Valentine on November 18, 2019, which is now converted into a channel that features both of them. They first posted a video on the channel on January 2, 2020. The video is titled, “OUR FIRST TIME BAKING HOLIDAY COOKIES TOGETHER” and their second video was captioned “RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR 2020 | DOWN SYNDROME”. The video was posted on January 15, 2020. Similarly, they have posted several other videos that have become popular, such as “OH BABY! IT’S THE BABY FOOD CHALLENGE”, and “PROM KING | NIGHT TO SHINE”.
The duo’s net worth is courted to be an estimated $1 million. Most of their earnings come from their social media presence as content creators, brand collaborations, and merchandise.
On TikTok, the creator could potentially earn upwards of an estimated $7k per post, excluding brand-sponsored deals. On Instagram, they could earn upwards of an estimated $2k for a brand-sponsored post. On YouTube, their average earnings are around the $500 mark per video, excluding brand-sponsored deals, for which they could charge upwards of $2k per video.
When it comes to brand collaborations, the duo has struck up deals with several top brands over the course of their social media influencing careers. We do not exactly know how much they could have earned from these interactions, as they have not revealed this information. We could assume that these brand collaborations play a major role in the amount they earn and could be one of their main sources of income.
The duo also sell merchandise on their “Golden Heart” page, which is accessible through the link on their Instagram bio. They currently sell only apparel and with the prices averaging at about $35 to $50, we could assume that the duo makes upwards of the 5 figure mark each year in sales.
The duo’s dominance on social media is very evident with over 7.7k TikTok followers, while on Instagram they have over 271k followers, and on YouTube, they have 122k subscribers. The duo also use Twitter but aren’t very active on the platform, hence they’ve only acquired under 500 followers.
Zachary Valentine was born on August 21, 2000, and Patrick Valentine was born on April 8, 1994. Both of them were born in Downey, California and they currently reside in Yucaipa, California. The duo’s mother is Linda Cota. Zach was diagnosed with Down syndrome, and the duo’s primary goal on social media is to make educational videos on TikTok about it. Patrick has done copious amounts of work for charities related to Down Syndrome support. He visited Paris, France in January 2019 and has played baseball at a competitive youth level.
Patrick recalled in an interview with “The Know”, “I was six years old when I found out I was going to have a little brother, and it was the most exciting thing ever. I always wanted a brother to just hang out with, play video games with, and just be best friends with. Zach has always wanted to do social media for a living. So just doing it makes sense. His vibrant smile, care, charismatic personality and overall positive attitude always make sense.”
Even though the two have been very close since day one, it was Zach’s passion for social media that eventually led the two brothers to their newfound stardom, which Pat says wasn’t at all surprising considering his brother’s charismatic charm. Pat mentions, in the same interview with “The Know”, that the two have faced many challenges that have stemmed from people’s misinformed views about Zach and what it means to live with Down syndrome.
He says, “Growing up … people had these negative perceptions of ‘he can’t do things’ or ‘he’s just a person with Down syndrome, he’s not going to amount to much in life. It didn’t really make sense to me where these negative perceptions came from. To me, he was my whole world. He was special. He was amazing. He was kind. He was funny.”
Pat’s approach for coping with such obstacles was two-fold — he surrounded himself with all the right people and did his best not to care about the rest. He goes on to say, “I know that sounds simpler, easier said than done, but not caring was one of the best things for my and Zach’s relationship to succeed and thrive. So I was very picky with the friends I chose. If they didn’t see my brother in this positive light and automatically saw him in a negative light because he has Down syndrome … I didn’t want them in my life.”
