The Trailers in GTA V are towable trailers that can be pulled by a few heavy vehicles.
There are many types of towable trailers like the container trailer, curtain-side trailer, box trailer, log trailer and flatbed trailer to name a few. Trailers can be towed by vehicles like the Barracks Semi, Docktug, Hauler, Packer and Phantom.

There are different types of trailers with different uses. The box trailer has a refrigeration unit which is probably used to store meat or frozen foods. The Cluckin Bell trailer is also a box trailer. There is a log trailer that can be seen carrying a pile of logs. Ramp trailers are used for transporting cars and are also driven by the player in missions.
Trailers can be attached to Barracks Semis, Docktugs, Haulers, Packers and Phantoms. The player has to drive in reverse towards the trailer and it automatically gets attached to the vehicle. To release the trailer, the player can simply press the designated key to do so or can even maneuver the vehicle in a certain way by forming a 90 degree angle with the trailer after which the trailer gets detached from the vehicle but may also topple over.
Several Phantoms are spotted towing Fame or Shame trailers during the mission Fame or Shame.
Two Packers tow ramp trailers during the Subtle approach to The Big Score, to store the cars full of gold at the end of the mission.
Two dock trailers are seen during the mission Scouting the Port, being pulled by Haulers.
Any variation of the trailer may appear parked on Panorama Drive opposite the Sandy Shores Airfield hangar.
Haulers, Phantoms and Packers are often seen towing a trailer on freeways and around the off-ramps and slip-roads on Dutch London Street in La Puerta.
They are sometimes found parked in and around the Murrieta Oil Field.
All variations of the trailer commonly appear around Terminal, along with the Flatbed trailer and Tanker trailer.
Strangely, trailers, trailers2 and trailers3 have their own individual handling lines in Handling.meta. However, all three use one handling line.
Jetsam and Bilgeco liveries can be found in the textures for the container-based trailers, but are unused on the trailer itself. It is likely these are reused from their respective static prop forms and simply not used on the towable trailers, or that they were planned to be but scrapped from the final game.
All liveries of the standard box trailer have a thin line on the center. This is because all liveries are split in half in the files, and the white line simply indicates where the liveries are wrapped.
