The Crusader in GTA V is a military version of the Mesa SUV, featuring a desert camo paint job and a military star on the sides. It has a flat utility bumper with two hooks, safety hooks on the hood, black arches, and stepside bars on the rear bed. The rear bumper is also flat with three hooks. It lacks license plates, badges, and stepsides, and often comes with a black soft top covering the upper cab and rear compartment.
The interior and dials are the same as the Cavalcade set found on the Mesa and other SUVs, and the vehicle spawns in white trimmings on the inverse of panels, engine bay, and trunk bed. It uses the same wheels as the Mesa but finished in black. When entering the Crusader, the player receives a Carbine Rifle as a reward.
The Crusader in GTA V has unremarkable acceleration and top speed which is balanced out with good handling, although over-steering may become an issue at high speeds. Its high center of gravity makes it susceptible to tipping over on uneven terrain.
It is slower than the regular Mesa but has improved durability, capable of withstanding excessive gunfire and multiple crashes. However, its flat bumpers make its headlights more vulnerable to breaking. Being a military vehicle, it cannot be modified at Los Santos Customs but can still be repaired.
The Crusader is powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine laid transversely in a front-engine, all-wheel-drive layout and sounds similar to the Cavalcade and Sandking, with a different engine layout and position than its civilian variant.
This vehicle cannot be modified in GTA V.
During The Paleto Score, many are seen used by the military forces.
Some are seen during the fourth Rampage for Trevor.
This vehicle can only be found at Fort Zancudo, parked or driven by the military NPCs.
The Crusader can be purchased on Warstock Cache and Carry for $225,000. It spawns at the hangar owned by the protagonist.
The Crusader can be acquired after Trevor's fourth rampage if the player leaves one of the vehicles undamaged during the mission.
Although Crusaders are available only in desert camouflage, those that are obtained from Fort Zancudo will spawn in white. However, those that are purchased from the website will come with an applied color on the inner trimmings, usually a red color.
In the original version, the Crusader could be stored inside any of the purchasable garages for each protagonist. However, in the enhanced version, it is no longer possible, as the car can be already stored in a hangar when purchased.
In the beta version of the game, the Crusader was the only vehicle in the Cargo Plane in the mission Minor Turbulence as seen in the second trailer, but was replaced with the Merryweather Mesa.
