Daryl Johns became a bank robber at a very young age after dropping out of school. His method of robbery was to pass a note to the teller who then quietly gave him the cash. He got away with it four times but the fifth time he got caught and was sentenced to ten years in jail. During this time he claims to have studied psychology, sociology and animal behavior due to which he was able to transform his brain into a “super weapon”.
Daryl Johns can be hired as the gunman for certain heist missions in GTA 5. He takes a cut of 6% which is the lowest of all cuts. He can be selected for the following missions which have the following outcomes.
The Paleto Score - If chosen as a gunman for this heist, he will be hit by a police car during the escape and cries out for help as he cannot feel his legs after being hit. He will die there and his bag of money can be collected from near his body.
The Bureau Raid - If chosen as a gunman for this heist, in the covert approach he will die in the gunfight, or if chosen along with Norm Richards or Hugh Welsh, Either Daryl or the second gunman will randomly die in the explosion while escaping. In the roof approach he might die in the shootout and he is a liability as a gunman due to his low accuracy with the gun.
The Big Score - In the subtle approach if chosen as the first gunman he will drop $18 million worth of gold bars and will have no consequences if chosen as the second gunman. In the obvious approach, there will be no consequences at all if he is the first or second gunman unless he doesn’t have prior experience. In that case there is a chance he might die during the shootout.

If he dies in The Bureau Raid, Franklin sarcastically says that his death must have been their fault, since Daryl never considered anything wrong that happened in the mission his own fault.
Daryl will use the Assault Rifle in the Roof entry approach of The Bureau Raid. Franklin comments on it, asking him why he brought a weak weapon. Daryl will then state that the crew is lucky that he even brought anything on his salary.
For some reason, he along with Karl and Hugh cannot be recruited for a heist in replayable missions. Whether it was intentional or not is unknown.
