Ginkaku and Kinkaku were half-brothers who were born a year apart to two separate mothers. Ginkaku was the name given after his mother’s silver hair. Both brothers inherited the vigor of their father’s numerous vices, who was descended from the Sage of the Six Paths. He trained them in the ninja arts until they were old enough to fend for themselves, and then he abandoned them.
The brothers scattered around the continent to fetch the Treasured Tools of Sage of the Six Paths. They tracked down every single one of them regardless of how well protected the tools were. Later, they sealed those tools within their body to protect them from others and summoned them when needed. Thus, wielding those tools, they came to be known as the Gold and Silver Brothers or, individually, as Kinkaku the Gold General and Ginkaku the Silver General.
When the Hidden Villages were being founded, the two Brothers offered their services to Kumogakure. The First Raikage told them that, in light of their fearsome reputation and proven skill, they would be allowed to join the Village’s ranks in condition that they gave one of the Treasured Tools to Kumo as a sign of goodwill, to which the brothers conceded the Amber Purifying Pot and were welcomed.
The brothers’ were tasked with capturing the Nine-Tails, but were swallowed during the confrontation. The Nine-Tails eventually had to regurgitate them after they weighed for two weeks inside the stomach of the tailed beast and survived by consuming the beast’s flesh. They both emerged from their escape looking like smaller replicas of the beast since they had consumed some of the fox’s chakra.
As they returned to the village after failing in their mission, though becoming stronger than ever, their power was kept secret among the higher-ups of the village. The two brothers plotted a coup d’état during a peace treaty ceremony between the Second Hokage of Konohagakure and the Second Raikage of Kumogakure, putting the Hokage on the brink of death. He eventually crossed paths with Kakuzu, who was still alive during the Third Raikage’s reign.
Ginkaku was revived by Kuboto Yakushi to battle the Allied Shinobi Forces in advance of the Fourth Shinobi World War. He and his brother joined the White Zetsu Army as they emerged from the water close to the coast of the Land of Lightning and battled the opposing First Division. When confronted by Darui, he said that given they destroyed the Second Hokage, it was sad that they of all people would meet the same fate.
He took the Schichiseiken from Kinkaku in response to Dario’s arrogant tone and started fighting the latter while holding the Benihisago under his arm. Ginkaku was able to separate and imprison Samui and Atsui word souls by switching opponents. Atsui was duped into saying his frequently used phrase after passing the blade to his brother, which enabled Ginkaku to imprison him.
He then attempted to force them to submit while holding Samui captive, but she escaped after being hit by a direct barrage. Ginkaku sealed Samui despite her silence and praised them both as true Kumo-nin before condemning Darui in his confusion.
Ginkaku reitates that duplicity and betrayal were perfect strategies for shinobi, but when branded a disgrace, he got outraged at the deluded “pawn” of the Raikage. He commended Darui for seeing that the curse will activate even if he keeps quiet. Darui’s most spoken word, which is being absorbed, changed just as Ginkaku was ready to seal him, allowing him to escape without the brothers’ knowledge. When being pushed towards Kinkaku from behind and touching the Kōkinjō, Ginkaku is then cursed by Darui after he seizes the other instruments.
When they are separated, Ginkaku begs his brother for assistance out of fear, but because Kinkaku was his most used term, he is instead drawn inside the Benihisago. Later, Tobi retrieved the Benihisago and threw it into the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path during his conflict with Naruto.
Ginkaku believed that a shinobi must be prepared to sacrifice their comrades if it means to achieve a goal. He was regarded as a disgrace to Kumogakure because of his indiscriminately dishonest nature and use of lies, betrayal, and attack on his own comrades in battle. He also had a strong bond with his brother.
Ginkaku, albeit smaller than his brother, was a relatively muscular shinobi. He had grey-tonnes skin, light-coloured eyes with dark sclera, long, silver hair cover with noticeable dark tips, and was styled in a manner like a Native American headdress. He had two noticeable horns on his head and a light-coloured rectangular mark on his nose that served to emphasise these features. He had distinctive facial markings that resembled whiskers.
He often wore a high-collared, sleeveless purple uniform, a purple forehead protector, and a pair of wrist-guards, over a normal Kumogakure flak jacket that was black around the borders. On his right shoulder, he has the tattoo “silver”. He usually wore a huge gourd on a thick rope around his neck in addition to this.
Ginkaku and his brother were renowned for their skill throughout their lifetime, to the point where others quavered in terror when they were seen decades afterwards. Due to their reputation for doing things like leaving the Second Hokage on the brink of death, the pair came to the attention of the Fourth Raikage, who saw them as a threat to even thousands of shinobi.
It was thought that since they were related to the Sage of Six Paths, they were able to subsist by consuming Tailed Beast Mode. He was able to take on both Version 1 and Version 2 forms as a result of accomplishing this, which gave him access to the Nine-Tails chakra.
The Brothers wielded the powerful five Treasured Tools of Sage of the Six Paths, which consist of a significant amount of chakra, enough to kill normal humans before they could utilize the tools. The Brothers were exceptionally skilled in using the tools and they were regarded as weapon specialists because of their amazing ability to operate the priceless weapon thanks to their own powerful chakra.
They can seal away their opponent’s word soul and body by combining the Benihisago, Kōkinjō and Shichiseiken. The Bashōsen allowed them to produce any of the five fundamental elements. Ginkaku demonstrated kenjutsu proficiency when he weileded the Shichiseiken. He was able to cut through a White Zetsu with ease and engaged briefly with Darui, a specialist, while using only one hand.
(To Darui) “Hey sometimes “speech is silver”, right? A silver tongue can trick anyone! Right now your problem is dead silence.”
(To Darui) “Words are just another tool people use to trick one another with lies. In the shinobi world, deceit and betrayal are fantastic battle strategies… Words are just another ninja tool.”
