Episode Name | The Fourth Hokage |
Series | Naruto Shippuden |
In the previous episode, Naruto saw Hinata being killed in front of his eyes and loses control over himself. At the lowest point of his life, he decides to let the Nine-Tails take full control of him, and proceeds to remove the seal. As he is about to remove it, the Fourth Hokage appears in front of him and stops him from doing it.
This episode starts with Naruto wondering how the Fourth Hokage knew his name. He explains that he is Naruto’s father and that he had placed his psyche into the seal, so if there came a day when Naruto did something like this, he could be there to stop him.
Realizing that the Fourth Hokage was his father, an emotional Naruto punches him in the gut, asking him why he would seal the demon fox inside his own son. He tells him about all the hardships he had to face because of it and how it caused the village to be destroyed by the Akatsuki.
Minato calmly responds that he believed in Naruto to be able to control the power of the Nine-Tails – and that he had sealed only half of it inside Naruto. He believes that Pain was being controlled by the Masked Man who had attacked Konoha years ago and tells Naruto that if anyone could find an answer to Pain’s question, he could. The Fourth Hokage puts the seal back on Naruto and bids farewell.
Meanwhile, the Team lead by Might Guy returns to the Hidden Leaf and is filled in on what happened by Gamabunta. They save Hinata.
Pain is stunned to see that the Planetary Devastation couldn’t contain the Nine-Tails. Suddenly, Naruto regains his senses and changes from the Nine-Tailed Fox back to his regular self, while in Sage Mode.
Naruto climbs down the crumbling structure that Pain had built. He then demands to Pain that he wishes to speak to the real Pain, but is ignored. The two then fight, in a battle with many interesting twists and turns.
Pain hits Naruto with one of his rods. Naruto uses Senjutsu to find out where the real Pain was by touching the rod. He then throws a Rasenshuriken at the Deva Path Pain, but he dodges it. Right after that, he makes a second attack by launching himself at Pain using the Rasengan.
After meeting his father for the first time, instead of embracing him as one would expect, Naruto punches him in the gut. This surprises many people as Naruto is usually a very positive person.
This scene is a testament to Naruto’s pent up frustration over the years, not understanding why he was fated to be the way he was. Naruto was already in an emotionally distressed place, considering his village had been destroyed and his friend had been “killed” right before his eyes.
