Jiraiya

Jiraiya is a fictional character in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto. Jiraiya was the godfather and master of the protagonist of the series, Naruto Uzumaki.

Disclaimer: This article will contain detailed information about Jiraiya and his role in the series. Readers are advised to read at their own discretion as this article will contain spoilers.

Jiraiya was always inspired to be a strong shinobi to be cool and become the center of attraction for women. It may not be a noble reason, but it was not the entire reason he wanted to become strong. He wanted to be a renowned shinobi, capable of guiding the shinobi world towards an era of peace and prosperity.

Jiraiya was one of The Hidden Leaf's Three Legendary Sannin. He was Naruto Uzumaki's master and was later revealed as his godfather. Jiraiya taught Naruto numerous skills, including the Rasengan, one of his signature jutsus. On their trips together, he also assisted Naruto in learning how to manage his rage and use Nine-Tails' abilities for his own benefit. Jiraiya and Naruto embarked on a voyage at the conclusion of the first Naruto series to train Naruto and make him powerful enough to battle the Akatsuki and rescue his companion Sasuke.

Jiraiya always regarded Naruto as his grandson and also was a role model for Naruto, and someone Naruto considered a part of his family. He encoded a message containing the secret of Pain for Naruto after his defeat in the Six Paths of Pain battle. The Great Toad Sage, Gamamaru prophesied that one of Jiraiya’s pupils would be the Child of Prophecy who would either destroy the shinobi world or bring stability to it, and Jiraiya would guide that child towards that path.

After his life-long journey in search, Jiraiya was certain that Naruto was the promised Child of Prophecy and that he would be the one to end the shinobi war and bring peace to the world. Jiraiya infiltrated the Hidden Rain Village to gather intel on the infamous leader of the Akatsuki, Pain. Although he was unsuccessful in defeating Pain and stopping the Akatsuki in their tracks, he uncovered the secret behind Pain’s real identity and his mysterious technique.

He relayed the message successfully to the Hidden Leaf Village. Unfortunately, Jiraiya had to pay for the intel with his life. In his last moments, Jiraiya reminisces about his past, his friends, and his families and entrusts everything to his pupil, Naruto Uzumaki, and dies with a smile on his face.

Jiraiya’s Background

Close to no information is available regarding Jiraiya’s family or his lineage in the series. Even his parents and clan are unknown. As a genin straight out of the Hidden Leaf Ninja Academy, Jiraya became a member of Team Hiruzen, alongside Tsunade Senju and Orochimaru, led by Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Compared to Tsunade and Orochimaru, he lacked the natural talent and had a hard time grasping jutsus. In the bell test, Tsunade and Orochimaru passed, whereas Jiraiya ended up getting tied to a log on the training grounds. While he is tied up, Hiruzen imparts some knowledge to him and shows him his summoning. Set dead on to proving himself, he copies the hand signs for the summoning jutsu and performs them. As he did not have a summoning contract with a summoning animal, he ended up getting teleported to Mount Myoboku, the homeland of sage toads.

Upon his arrival, he was informed that the Great Toad Sage, Gamamuru, prophesied his arrival. After an introduction, Gamabunta escorts him to the Great Toad Sage. The elder toad told him about a dream he had, a prophecy about a child who would bring a great change in the shinobi world. The said Child of Prophecy would either bring peace and stability to the shinobi world or bring about unfathomable destruction. Gamamaru prophesied that the said Child of Prophecy would be Jiraiya’s pupil, and he would be responsible for guiding the child to their destiny.

Young Jiraiya started traveling between Mount Myoboku and the Hidden Leaf Village. In the little time that he got after his missions, he would train in Toad Senjutsu at Mount Myoboku. As Jiraiya often had to go out on missions, it took him a noticeably long period to learn Toad Senjutsu. After he had learned Senjutsu, the Great Sage Toad prophesied that he would meet the Child of Prophecy during one of his journeys throughout the world. With a goal set in mind, Jiraiya set out on the road in the search of the said child and to guide him. While on the road, he picked up writing and started writing books.

After spending several years on the road, Jiraiya returns to the Hidden Leaf Village as they were engaged in the Second Great Shinobi War. Even though they had parted ways as a team a long time again, Tsunade, Orochimaru, and Jiraiya fought multiple battles together and came out of them alive together. In the Hidden Rain Village, they ended up battling the leader of the Hidden Rain at that time, the renowned Hanzo of the Salamander. Even though they could not win against him, they put up a great fight. Hanzo was impressed by their talent and named them the Three Legendary Sannin of the Hidden Leaf Village.

In the Hidden Rain Village, the three Sannin were approached by three orphans of the war, Yahiko, Konan, and Nagato Uzumaki. The orphans requested them to take them under their wing and teach them ninjutsu so that they can protect themselves. Being the kind heart person he was, Jiraiya took them under his wing and decided to stay back.

One time when Jiraiya was away, the orphans were attacked and Nagato ended up killing the invaders. Upon Jiraiya’s return, Yahiko informed him about the situation and Jiraiya came to know that Nagato possessed the Eyes of the Sage of Six Paths, the Rinnegan. Jiraiya believed that Nagato was the Child of Prophecy. Nagato was afraid of his own prowess and afraid of hurting others. Jiraiya understood his dilemma and took it upon himself to console the scared young kid. He imparted his understanding of the world they lived in and stated, "When people get hurt, they learn to hate… when people hurt others, they become hated and racked with guilt. But knowing that pain allows people to be kind. Pain allows people to grow… and how you grow is up to you.". Nagato took his words to heart and followed his teachings.

When Jiraiya was sure that the orphans were capable of defending themselves, he parted ways with them and returned to the Hidden Leaf Village. Jiraiya left a copy of his book, Gutsy Shinobi, as a praying present for Nagato. After returning to the Hidden Leaf, Jiraiya heard about the orphans and their achievements from time to time until he received the news that they had died.

As the war ended, Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage, decided to shoulder all responsibility and step down from his position as the Hokage. Jiraiya was requested to take up the position of the Fourth Hokage, but he refused, believing that he was not cut out for such an esteemed position. Upon his refusal, Minato Namikaze, Jiraiya’s pupil, was named the Fourth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village.

After reading his book, Minato decided to name his and Kushina Uzumaki’s then-unborn son after the main character of the book, Naruto. Jiraiya tried to refuse as that would make him Naruto’s godfather, but Minato and Kushina insisted on it. They hoped that this would make Naruto determined and gutsy, like the main character and the author of the book. The death of Minato and Kushina during the Nine-Tails Attack left Jiraiya in shambles as he was unable to save any of his pupils.

Their differences aside, Jiraiya considered Orochimaru to be one of his closest friends. After Orochimaru got caught and fled from the Hidden Leaf Village, Jiraiya chased him in hopes of bringing him back. To Jiraiya’s surprise, Orochimaru attacked him and escaped. Jiraiya now decided to figure out what caused this change in Orochimaru as that was not the Orochimaru that he once knew.

He believed that if he could find that out, he could bring him back. Unfortunately, he could never understand that reason. Jiraiya then spent his life tracking Orochimaru’s movements and the Akatsuki, which Orochimaru joined at some point, to find a way to bring his friend back. This was one of the reasons he could never accept the position of the Hokage like Hiruzed wanted him to, as this task took him all over the places away from the village.

Chunin Exams

Jiraiya returned to the Hidden Leaf Village unannounced and was spotted peeing on women in the hot springs by Ebisu, Hidden Leaf Jonin. When Ebisu tries to stop him, he knocks him unconscious with his Toad Summoning. Having his trainer knocked out, Naruto nags Jiraiya about what he has done and asks Jiraiya to train him for the upcoming Chunin Exams. Jiraiya refused this proposal but then agreed when Naruto showed him his Oiroke no Jutsu. This was the first time Naruto met his godfather, Jiraiya.

While training Naruto, Jiraiya noticed that he was the Nine-Tails Jinchuriki and realized that Naruto was struggling to control his chakra due to the Five Elements Seal, which was restricting the normal flow of chakra. He guessed that Orochimaru must have placed the seal on the kid’s belly. Jiraiya used the Five Elements Unsealing Technique, which helped Naruto in controlling his chakra. Jiraiya decided to train Naruto to use his Nine-Tails chakra and informed Ebisu of his decision.

Later Jiraiya taught Naruto to use the Summoning Jutsu, which requires a huge amount of chakra. He believed that it would make Naruto use the Nine-Tails chakra but after witnessing Naruto fail continuously, he decided to take a slightly different approach. He thought Naruto would summon bigger and bigger toads as he practiced but Naruto could not control his own chakra, let alone Nine-Tails, and summoned tadpoles again and again. Based on Naruto’s history, Jiariya realized that Naruto was only able to tap into Nine-Tails chakra in life or death situations.

Jiraiya threw Naruto off a cliff hoping that this would make him tap into Nine-Tails chakra and summon a toad big enough to save him from certain death. To his surprise, Naruto summoned Gamabunta, the Chief Toad of Mount Myoboku.

Attack on the Hidden Leaf

When Orochimaru launched his attack on the Hidden Leaf Village, he attacked with giant snakes to breach the boundary and create an opening for the Hidden Sand and Hidden Sound shinobi. Jiraiya arrived at the scene and defeated those snakes by his Summoning: Food Cart Destroyer Jutsu and crushed the snakes with the toad, Gamahiro. Jiraya rushed to aid the Third Hokage but was too late. By the time he arrived, Hiruzen had died in battle and Orochimaru fled the village. Instead of attending his funeral, Jiraiya went to the Third Training Ground, processing his grief.

Search for Tsunade

After Hiruzen’s death, the village was in need of the Fifth Hokage. Village elders approached Jiraiya to assume the position, which he declined. He recommended Tsunade for the job. Jiraiya then set out to find Tsunade in the hour of need and took Naruto with him to keep him safe from the Akatsuki after Itachi and Kisame infiltrated the village. Naruto did not know about this and was skeptical at first to go with him, but agreed once Jiraiya promised to teach him a jutsu stronger than Sasuke’s Chidori.

On their journey, Jiraiya and Naruto decided to stop in and stay at an inn in Shukuba Town to rest and gather intel. Jiraiya is lured away from Naruto by an attractive woman. Jiraiya soon realized that she was under the influence of a Genjutsu and rushed back to Naruto. Upon returning, he found injured Sasuke lying on the ground and Naruto about to be captured by Itachi Uchiha and Kisame Hoshigaki, members of the Akatsuki. Jiraiya traped them in his Summoning: Toad Mouth Bind Jutsu, but they managed to escape as Itachi used Amaterasu to burn through a hole and create a passage for their escape. Might Guymade a surprising entrance and ended up attacking Jiraiya by mistake, for which he apologized later. Jiraiya instructed Guy to take Sasuke back to the village to get medical attention and informed Naruto why the Akatsuki was after him.

Jiraiya later familiarized Naruto with Rasengan and started his training while they were tracking Tsunade. Although Naruto relied on some unconventional methods that only he could come up with, he mastered the first and second steps of the training with flying colors.

Eventually, Jiraiya stumbled upon Tsunade, along with her attendant Shizune, at a bar in Tanzaku Town. When Naruto learned that she is supposed to be the Fifth Hokage, he does not approve of her seeing her ridicule the position of the Hokage, his dream, and challenges her to a duel, which she won with ease. Naruto showcased an imperfect Rasengan in their battle for which Tsunade mocks him and Jiraiya, claiming what was the point is teaching it to someone who can never master it. Pissed at her for the mockery, Naruto challenged Tsunade that he would master the jutsu in a week, for which Tsunade bets her necklace.

Jiraiya asked Tsunade to go out for some drinks. He suspected that Orochimaru had approached her and made an offer. He did not ask for details but threatened to kill her if she ever tried to betray the Hidden Leaf Village. He later invites Tsunade out for drinks, a day before her bet with Naruto expired. Tsunade used this opportunity to drug Jiraiya and render him unconscious.

The next day, riddled with the effects of the drugs, Jiraiya was unable to control his chakra. He then found Kabuto, Orochimaru’s subordinate, spying on them and asks Shizune to reveal Orochimaru’s offer. He then rushed to help Tsunade and ended up fighting against Orochimaru.

Jiraya was unable to control his chakra, and Orochimaru was incapable of using ninjutsu because his hands were sealed away. The three Sannin ended up in a Three Way Deadlock. Jiraiya was worried that he might have to kill Tsunade if she accepted Orochimaru’s offer but found out that she was trying to kill Orochimaru.

Tsunade was rendered helpless due to her phobia of blood and was unable to fight. Naruto helped her and used his perfect Rasengan against Kabuto. Orochimaru fled with Kabuto as the battle ended. Tsunade returned to the Hidden Leaf Village as the Fifth Hokage.

Sasuke Recovery Mission

After returning to the Hidden Leaf Village, Jiraiya requested her to tend to Kakashi and Sasuke’s mental injuries. After getting healed, Sasuke and Naruto ended up fighting each other and were about to attack each other with Chidori and Rasengan, but were stopped by Kakashi.

After their fight, Sasuke fled the village to meet with Orochimaru to gain the power to kill Itachi and get his revenge. Naruto and his friends end up in the hospital after their failed attempt to rescue Sasuke. Speaking from experience, Jiraiya put three approaches in front of Naruto to prepare Naruto for the upcoming battles and asked him to cut ties with Sasuke.

After Naruto declined, Jiraiya stated that it would be fooling to go after Sasuke when he didn’t want to come back. Naruto replied that he would rather be a fool rather than abandon his friend.

Investigating the Land of Rice Fields

In the anime, Jiraiya travels to the Land of Rice Fields as he gathered intel that they might have a connection with the Hidden Sound Village. He took Naruto and Sakura along with him in hopes they would find intel regarding Sasuke’s whereabouts. They could not gather any intel about Sasuke but ended up freeing the Fuma Clan from Orochimaru’s control.

Hidden Sand Village Support Mission

After Naruto and other shinobi of the Konoha 11 return to the Hidden Leaf, emerging victorious in their mission to help the Gaara of the Hidden Sand Village, Jiraiya takes Naruto for a treat at the Ichiraku Ramen Shop. He later departs on a three years journey with Naruto from the Hidden Leaf Village to train Naruto and prepare him for the battles lying ahead of him in the near future.

Timeskip

In their journey, Jiraiya trained Naruto on how to counter genjutsu and tap into Nine-Tails chakra for his own benefit.

Kazekage Rescue Mission

Jiraiya and Naruto return to the Hidden Leaf after their two-and-a-half-years journey. Tsunade asks Naruto and Sakura to go up against Kakashi to test their progress. In the meantime, Gaara, the Fifth Kazekage of the Hidden Sand Village, got abducted by Sasori and Deidara, Akatsuki members. Team 7 consisting of Kakashi, Naruto, and Sakura was dispatched to aid the Hidden Sand to rescue the Kazekage.

Tenchi Bridge Reconnaissance Mission

After Team 7 was successful in rescuing Gaara, they return to the Hidden Leaf. Kakashi informed Jiraiya about the incident when Naruto lost control. Jiraiya later relieved his encounter with Naruto in his Nine-Tails Cloak and how he nearly died. Yamato was later assigned to keep Naruto’s Nine-Tails chakra in check.

The appearance of the Three-Tails

In the anime, Jiraiya came to congratulate Naruto on defeating Kakuzu and later trained him in cooperation jutsu with his summons as Naruto did not possess any long-range ninjutsu. Jiraiya was unable to see Naruto’s training all the way through as he was summoned to investigate some intel he gathered on Akatsuki. He asked Naruto to complete his training and convinced Tsunade to let Naruto go with Team 8 to seal the Three-Tails.

Itachi Uchiha Pursuit Mission

Jiraiya returned to the Hidden Leaf and informed Tsunade about the rumor that Sasuke Uchiha supposedly killed Orochimaru. Jiraiya greaves over the news of the death of his dear friend. Jiraiya was sad as he failed to rescue his friend, Orochimaru. They informed Naruto and Sakura about the incident. They believed that Sasuke was going to make a move to kill his elder brother, Itachi Uchiha, who was a member of the Akatsuki. They came to the conclusion that if they locate Itachi, they might be able to locate Sasuke as well and bring him back to the Hidden Leaf Village. An eight-man squad was put together and dispatched to locate Itachi and Sasuke and bring Sasuke back to the village.

Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant

Jiraiya received some intel stating that the alleged leader of the Akatsuki was hiding in the Hidden Rain Village. He decided to infiltrate the Hidden Rain as it was very secretive and did not grant permission to enter the village easily. Jiraiya informed Tsunade of his intensions. Tsunade was against the idea of him infiltrating Hidden Rain, supposedly the base of Akatsuki’s leader, on his own as it might turn out to be fatal. Jiraiya convinced Tsunade and asked her to bet on him dying, as she always lost her bets.

Jiraiya infiltrated the Hidden Rain and started gathering intel about the leader of the Akatsuki. He was surprised that Hanzo of the Salamander was killed a long time ago, and now the Hidden Rain was ruled by someone who was referred to as The God of Hidden Rain, alongside Lady Angel, by the citizens of the Hidden Rain Village. Jiraiya guessed that this suspicious individual could be the leader of the Akatsuki.

While investigating, Jiraiya was confronted by Lady Angel. Jiraiya recognized her and realized that she was Konan, one of the orphans he trained from Hidden Rain. After Konan failed to contain Jiraiya, Pain showed up on the battlefield. Jiraiya found him to be familiar as well and thought of him to be his other pupil from the Hidden Rain, Nagato Uzumaki, based on his legendary Dojutsu, Rinnegan. Both former pupils of Jiraiya acknowledge their master.

They deemed Jiraiya to be a threat to their plan of world domination and attacked him to eliminate him. To fight effectively against his formidable pupils, Jiraiya summoned LadyShima and Lord Fukasaku and entered his Honored Sage Mode.

Jiraiya was now fighting against the Six Paths of Pain, six individuals with Rinnegan, while Konan remained on the sidelines. The sage found it hard to believe that there was six individual with Rinnegan, and no one knew about it. He also realized that now that he took a good look at him, Deva Pain did not resemble Nagato. He looked more like Yahiko.

Jiraiya was having a hard time battling the Six Paths of Pain as no matter how many he killed or immobilized, they would get resurrected or healed completely. Lord Fukasaku advised Jiraiya to escape as this battle could cost him his life. Against Lord Fukasaku’s recommendation, Jiraiya decided to uncover the secret of the Six Paths of Pain as he might never get another opportunity like this.

Jiraiya was able to isolate and capture one of the six Pains in his Barrier: Toad Gourd Prison and asked Lady Shima to take the toad with her to the Hidden Leaf Village to analyze his body. When suggested to leave with her, Jiraiya mentioned that he had a hunch that he needed to confirm. When Jiraiya returned, he was attacked by the remaining five Pains.

Jiraiya confirmed his theory that each body of Pain was of a shinobi who he met earlier on his journeys and were supposedly dead. He was able to uncover Pain’s secret. Before he could communicate this to Lord Fukasaku, his throat was crushed and his body impaled with black chakra rods.

Jiraiya was losing consciousness and his life started flashing before his eyes. He reminisced about his life and how he failed at most things in his life, failure to win Tsunade’s affection, failing to save his master or his pupil, and now failing to relay the intel he gathered on Pain. He concluded his life to be nothing more than a failure. He wanted to die like the Hokage’s died over the years, protecting the village or something he loved, but he was dying a meaningless death.

42 <b>Jiraiya</b> (<b>Naruto</

In his train of thoughts, Jiraiya remembered his godson, Naruto Uzumaki. He remembered how stubborn Naruto could be and that he would not surrender or give up no matter what until he achieved his dream. He realized that being Naruto’s master, he should have the determination as his pupil.

Now motivated and filled with resolve, Jiraiya gained consciousness and wrote a coded message on Lord Fukasaku’s back with his Finger Carving Seal. It is believed that Jiraiya restarted his heart with pure sheer will.

Seeing that Jiraiya was still alive, they attacked him again and Jiraya was then thrown into the sea. Meanwhile, Lord Fukasaku managed to escape with the encoded message on his back.

While drowning at the bottom of the sea, Jiraiya was thinking about his godson, Naruto. Jiraiya realized that Naruto was the Child of Prophecy, not Nagato. He was relieved that he could leave the rest to Naruto.

He believed that Naruto would be the one to bring peace to the shinobi world. With this realization, Jiraiya declared the end of his story, Jiraiya, The Gallant. Before losing consciousness, Jiraiya named its sequel, The Tale of Naruto Uzumaki, and died with a smile on his face.

Time Slip Arc - Boruto: Naruto Next Generations

In Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Sasuke and Boruto found themselves back in time when Naruto was still a kid. They were chasing Urashiki Otsutsuki who was planning to kill Naruto and extract Kurama. There they run into Jiraiya and Naruto and the younger selves of the previous Konoha 11.

Jiraiya trained Boruto and young Naruto to combine their Rasengan to fight against Urashiki. After Sasuke informed him of Urashiki’s abilities, Jiraiya mentioned that it would be easier to seal Urashiki rather than to kill him.

In their battle against Urashiki, Jiraiya played a significant role and did his best to protect Naruto. Jiraiya ended up getting hurt in the battle, which enraged Naruto and he got taken over by the Nine-Tailed Fox’s chakra. Boruto was able to get a hold of Naruto and used his Nine-Tails chakra for a combined Rasengan attack. With the help of Jiraiya and Sasuke, Boruto and young Naruto successfully landed a hit on Urashiki with their collaborated Rasengan technique and defeated Urashiki.

The following day, Sasuke and Boruto prepared to return to their timeline. Even though Sasuke claimed to be a traveler, Jiraiya figured out his real identity and the fact that he was from the future and confronted Sasuke about it. Sasuke confirmed his suspicion. Jiraiya suggested that it would be best if they had no memories of this incident.

Sasuke erased memories of everyone they came in contact with since their arrival with his Sharingan. Before his memories were erased, Jiraiya smiled, realizing that Naruto would succeed in bringing Sasuke back to the Hidden Leaf Village.

Jiraiya’s Personality

Jiraiya was a light-hearted and humorous person. He would make people laugh at his own expense. When he was around others, he would act smug and then tease them. He was also kind of perverted. He would often peek at women taking baths and claimed that research for his Icha-Icha novels. He had even claimed himself the biggest pervert with no one to challenge him.

Although he was not ashamed of it, he would often complain when Naruto would refer to him as the Pervy Sage. When introducing himself, he would often strike a pose on top of Kabuki and gave a dramatic introduction. Jiraiya often broke the Three Prohibitions of Shinobi. A shinobi is never supposed to give in to three weaknesses, sex, alcohol, and money.

As a kid, Jiraiya was seen as a troublemaker. As he grew up, he became a renowned shinobi that everyone looked up to. He had shown great combat skills and analytic ability in his battles. He even established a vast network for intel gathering across nations. When it came to intel gathering and infiltrating, he was considered the best.

Although Jiraiya had his vices, he had a great personality. He was loyal to his friends and the Hidden Leaf. Even after Orochimaru became a rogue shinobi, he never gave up on him. When he thought that Tsunade might betray the Hidden Leaf Village, he threatened to kill her if she harmed the Hidden Leaf in any way. In his battle against the Six Paths of Pain, Jiraiya had the opportunity to flee, but he chose to stay and gather intel. He sacrificed himself to gather intel that would save his village and countless other lives.

Jiraiya never had his own family. He always considered Minato Namikaze his son and Naruto as his grandson. He considered all his pupils as his family. It saddened him when he realized what Konan and Nagato had become and what they went through. He regretted that he was not with them in their hardships.

Despite all his shenanigans, Jiraiya was a kind-hearted man who treasured those who were close to him. He was also pursuing his own goal, to find a way to bring true peace to the shinobi world and bring an end to all the senseless conflicts. Even though he was not able to find the answer himself, he entrusted this task to his godson, Naruto Uzumaki.

Jiraiya’s Appearance

Jiraiya was a large, physically fit man in his fifties. Jiraiya had two bangs that framed the dark eyes on his face and long white hair that reached his hips. As Jiraiya grew older, the red lines under his eyes got deeper. On the left side of his nose, he had what might be categorized as a wart or piercing.

Jiraiya fashioned a green pair of pants and a matching short shirt that resembled a kimono. He additionally sported a belt, a red haori with yellow circles on each side, red wooden sandals, and a belt. He had identical knuckle guards and meshed armor that was visible around his wrists and ankles below his attire. In addition, he wore headgear with horns to indicate his connection to Mount Myoboku. He had a tattoo on his left palm and a scar on his chest, which he received when he tried calm Naruto in his version 2 of Nine-Tails’s Chakra Cloak.

Jiraiya’s Abilities

Jiraiya learned several jutsus and learned about the world on his way to becoming one of the greatest shinobi in history. Although he did not have much talent in Genjutsu, he came up with a technique to get out of one. Jiraya had huge chakra reserves with recognizable chakra control. He was able to summon several powerful toads in a short time span. He had such chakra control that he was capable of using Rasengan with both hands. Aside from the use of chakra, he also had a considerable amount of raw power, capable of sending his opponents fleeing.

Jiraiya was also able to use Toad Sage Jutsu, which is a feat on its own. Sage Jutsu is very difficult to learn as it requires the manipulation of nature energy, if not contained, can turn the user into a toad made of stone. Jiraiya also showcased great resilience and analytic tactics in battle. After confronting Pain, he was able to uncover his secret, which no one else was known to uncover.

Jiraiya had mastered a lot of ninjutsu in his journey to becoming one of the strongest shinobi. Here is a list of all the jutsu that he possessed in his arsenal.

Famous Quotes by Jiraiya

To Nagato - "When people get hurt, they learn to hate… when people hurt others, they become hated and racked with guilt. But knowing that pain allows people to be kind. Pain allows people to grow… and how you grow is up to you."
To Orochimaru - "You're wrong, that's not what makes a shinobi. You never did get it, a real ninja is one who endures no matter what gets thrown at him… Let me explain something to you, there is only one thing that matters if you are a shinobi, and it isn't the number of techniques you possess. All you do need is the guts to never give up."
To Naruto - "Even I can tell that hatred is spreading. I wanted to do something about it … but I don't know what … but I believe… that someday the day will come when people truly understand one another!! If I can't find the answer, it will be up to you to do it!!
To Tsunade - "Now my job is to help the next generation and set a good example for them. And for that, I'll gladly lay down my life, and I'll be smiling the whole time. It's what makes us old guys cool, you see."
To Tsunade - "A person who feels nothing at the death of those close to him is no different than a butcher."
To Naruto - "Never go back on your word… and never give up. That's your ninja way… and as your mentor… I have no business whining! Because… the student's ninja way should be the master's too! Isn't that so, Naruto?!"
Last Words - "There, that ending… was a little better. The frog at the bottom of the well drifts off into the great ocean. Heh heh… yep… pretty damn honorable… pretty damn honorable… I guess it's time to put down my pen. Right… I need a title for the next book… let's see… Ah, got it… The Tale of Naruto Uzumaki… perfect."
