Kushina Uzumaki belonged to the esteemed Uzumaki Clan, where she would be enrolled to the Hidden Leaf Village’s Academy. She joins the academy and would declare that she would become the first female Hokage. Everyone laughs at her and seeing this, she lashes out at her bullies which earned her the nickname “Red Hot-Blooded Habanero”.

Eventually, Kushina was told that she had to leave her village and live in Konoha so that she could be the Jinchuriki of the Nine-Tailed fox, Kurama. She was initially scared of the idea but was comforted by the previous Jinchuriki.

When she turned 12 years old, the shinobi of the Hidden Cloud Village kidnapped Kushina in order to obtain the power of the Nine-Tails for themselves. While she was being kidnapped, she left a trail of her hair on the way so that someone could follow her. Minato Namikaze notices this and follows the trail and retrieves Kushina.

This event caused Kushina to have feelings for Minato, which he would reciprocate. They eventually ended up marrying each other and they had a child together. The two of them decided to name the child ‘Naruto’ after the main character of Jiraiya’s first book who would become the saviour of the world. She was closely monitored by Kakashi Hatake, Minato’s student, during her pregnancy under Minato’s orders.

Childbirth is a difficult process for a Jinchuriki as the seal is at its weakest during it. Because of this, Kushina moves to a place outside the village to give birth, where a masked man who claimed to be Madara Uchiha released the Nine-Tails. After defeating the masked man, Minato had to protect the village and brings the Nine-Tails to the location where Kushina and Naruto were.

Kushina volunteers to die and take the Nine-Tails with her but Minato convinces her to seal the Nine-Tails in Naruto’s body. This would cause the Fourth Hokage to die but it would mean that Naruto would live with Kushina. However, after Minato sealed the Yin half of the Nine-Tails inside Naruto, the chains that Kushina used to restrain the fox weakened and he attacked Naruto.

But both Kushina and Minato threw themselves in the way, shielding their son from the attack even though it impaled them on his claws and meant that they would slowly die. Kushina eventually passes away while advicing Naruto about what to expect in the future and before she dies, she tells the third Hokage, Hiruzen, to take care of Naruto.

Later on, after Naruto tried to gain control of the Nine-Tails’ chakra, Kushina appears to help him and talks to him about all the things she wanted. This was thanks to the fact that Minato sealed the rest of their chakra into Naruto via the Jutsu.

Since she is from the Uzumaki Clan, Kushina had an incredibly high amount of Chakra. This was also the reason why she was chosen to be Kurama’s Jinchuriki. Even by the standards of the Uzumaki Clan, which is quite high, Kushina is seen to be extremely potent.

She is also extremely skilled in sealing techniques, something that the Uzumaki clan had been famous for. She would teach Minato some of these skills as well.

Her physical prowess is incredible, as she is seen beating people half to death, even as a genin, for making fun of her. While she has learnt to control it since, it is still a testament to how strong she is. She also survived for a really long time after being impaled by the Nine-Tailed Beast.

Due to her lack of screentime, the exact number of Jutsu that Kushina knows is unknown. However, it is understood that she had a lot in her arsenal, although it wasn’t shown off.

1. Fuinjutsu: Kushina is very knowledgeable in sealing techniques. She is seen using them even after her death, in order to help Naruto borrow Kurama’s power.
2. Kyuubi Mode: Although this isn’t shown in the anime, she seems to know how to borrow the Kyuubi’s power while fighting it. This implies that she had access to Kyuubi Mode.
